Miami Vice Scarab

I am heading up the planning of the 20th Anniversary Miami Vice Convnetion which will take place in Miami from 29 September to 3 October. I am trying to find the person who emailed me re having a a 38 foot Scarab that either looked like or may actually be one of the boats used in Miami Vice. The owner of one of the Scarabs that was used on the show will not be able prepere his boat in time to have it brought down to the Convention and he suggested I try looking for the person on this site.

If you are the person who contacted me or know who he is, or
if you have a Scarab that was used in the show or one that looks like it and would't mind putting it on display at the Convention
please contact me at [email protected]

I realize this is short notice, but we only found a sponsor who is able to cover the costs of bringing the boat to Miami for the Convention this past week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Elizabeth Johnston

Dick Simon Marine had one of the 12 with the signature series paint. Its not a 38KV, (Its a panther). But looks the same.

I think the actual boat is in Texas.

You will find that there are a SCARY amount of Miami Vice trivia and knowladge on this board!!!

I saw this one on the web some time ago and it was located in the Great Lakes region. Don't know the individual or a contact, but he was restoring the boat to all original spec. He did not have the hatch or arch installed at time of photo. Sorry if this does not help, but a point in the direction.

I saw one for sale in San Rafael California a while back. I am sure someone on this board knows where the real original one is.
BTW, I have a VHS tape of the final episode! :D

Talk to Boatme (marc Blondin) on this board. He used to own a 38 KV with the 'Vice paint job. He may know where it is today.... he doesn't lose track of his old boats!

I heard a guy in Rochester NY owns one of the "show" boats and has it restored in perfect condition, although updated with newer style gauges, shifters and stuff. And it is also rumored it will be on display at the Miami boat show.
I did see one, same colors as the pictures, without an arch in the 1000 Islands this past summer but not sure if it was the Rochester boat or not? Cause the Roch. boat was sopposed to have an arch?

Hey thanks for the thread I didnt know there was going to be a convention and these boats bring back great memories to me because I worked at Custom Engine Service back in the 80s and we use to build and maintain the engines for all the Miami Vice boats including Don Johnsons personal boats also . At the time we were one of a few Mercruiser repair shops in the state and also were building the engines for the US Customs original Blue Thunder boats. Thanks great memories Laz Mesa

If you need a white blazer and turquoise t-shirt to wear, PM Stecz20, he still has all of his old Crocket gear, although none of it fits anymore.

There was one last year at Pleasure Cove Marina in Pasadena, MD. It was one of the original boats but in real rough shape. Not sure if it is still there.

My brother has an '87 that looks very similar (pictured below). My brother's boat is the one that Team V saw in the 1000 Islands this summer.

The guy out of Rochester actually does have 1 of the boats that was actually used in the show. He has been restoring it for 3 years and it is mint. He has been keeping it at Bonnie Castle in Abay, NY.

Try calling Bonnie Castle (800) 955-4511 to get his number or pm me if you are interested in showing my brother's boat.

You guys are great - but then speedboats and Miami Vice go together like Crockett and Tubbs.
Thanks so much for all the help - hopefully we'll be able to get in contact with one of the owners and get a boat to the Convention.

As there are definitely a lot of Vice fans here - if you want any information about the 20th Anniversary Convention, check out our website at http://www.members.shaw.ca/mvconv04/ . We'd love to have you come and join in the celebration.

If you know of any in or around Miami, let me know how we can can get in touch with the owner and I'll talk to our sponsors to see if they'd be interested in putting it on display as well at the Best of Miami Vice Party on Friday night at The hard Rock Cafe.

Minx20, that was my boat. I am in Texas. This photo was taken last year before I had the arch fabricated.

Wished I could bring her down to Florida but presently she is under major retrofit. I am installing a pair of 950 hp Twin Turboed 525s, updating to Konrad Outdrives and modifying the hull to incorporate a pad bottom among other things. I am hoping to have her back in the water come February 05.

Sure would have liked having her (and me) there at the convention.

Incidentally, my boats name is "My Only Vice" :D

Good Luck!

Duane

One of the original MV boats is in Germany.

Miami Vice Scarab

They wanted 85k USD back in 2000. It had only 90 hours on the engines. All original and papers certifying it was one of the boats used in the show.

I don't know if they still have it.

Re: Miami Vice Scarab

FREE What is the shape of the PAD you'r putting on ?? how are you blending it in?? I've looked at the way Reggie runs a strake afew inches up from the "V" and blends that into a PAD with a small step { 1/2" or so ] and then continues it on to the stern. I've thought about that for my boat [26' w/ Lg S/B;ASD6] Also thought about running the 2nd strake down from the chine all the way to the stern, maybe blending in abit of extra width on that strake like lots of the newer hulls seem to have for some added lift. thanks AWsr

Re: Miami Vice Scarab

Actually, it is only the last 8 inches from the transom inward that I am putting the pad on, hoping it will substitute as a standoff box somewhat, keeping the props in the water when coming out of the hole. My props were blowing out and it took forever to get it up on plane. I am also looking at incorporating some water intake tunnels into the bottom of the hull similar to what Derebery did to his b'yond reason.

I know the guy that owns the one in upstate NY - well, actually JB does. Being at Bonnie Castle explains why we haven't seen it around. I think JB still has his phone number if you haven't gotten it already.

FREE I dont understand what you are doing . Are you going to grind down the 'V'[keel] or build up along side the "V"? And how far up toward the chine are you going to have this pad go?? EXcuse my lack of knowlege ,but who is Derebery ond what did do Are there any threads on "V" bottom improvements?? Design has changed since my hull was built in '81 Thanks AWsr

Derebery is Derebery Performance Marine. They have worked the hull of a 32 skater and incorporated /improved the water inlets.

Free- are you on texoma, if so i have seen your boat out a couple times.

I seen the actual Miami Vice boat from the latest Miami Vice movie (The one made with Jamie Fox as Tubbs). It was in the showroom at Pier 57, Counce, TN. (Pier 57 Owner is David Woods)
They told me it was the actual boat in the movie. It was there 2 months ago.
I don't know if your interested in that one or not....
