I would get that labbed and add just a touch of cup cuz the labbing will put you to 5300 Darin too my stock 26 and labbed it it went from 4780 67.7to 5100 70.6 which is right where I want to be, with 4 people my rpm drops to 5000 or 69mph and I still have a good acceleration. this boat will have to do until I get a Dominator or a 31ss Sonic

Seems like more of a sales gimmic to me then a true performance enhancement doing it this way.

Yep sales gimmic$$$, you would think they would want to tune the prop to the boat.

The Maximus prop has to be lab finished to run respectably. Out of the box the prop is about 15.75" diameter with a lot of cup and big blades. That's the disadvantage with the prop.

Out of the box it might work well on a heavy boat with diesel engines but that's about the only application I could imagine it may work well on.

I am having a tough time because the 05 288 hull is brand new this year, with full step, a pad and a small notch, and there isn't much if ANY prop testing data. would the hull like some more bow lift ??, maybe it wants stern lift, seems to run best with VERY little trim or else the rooster tail and slip is huge. I have heard that stock hydromotives run as good or even better than labbed bravo's.

My stock 26 B1 runs 69-71 mph @ 4950-5050 depending on temp, fuel, people, I have a labbed 26 that runs @ the rev limiter and maybe 1 or so mph faster..

so,, buying used labbed props is a crap shoot, would like to demo a few different ones and find a stocker that works best and then have it labbed from there to run @ about 5,000..

Matt do you have a 27 hydro I could demo ??

Chris288,

We have a 27 P5X as a test prop if you want to try it give us a call.

Yes, used lab props are a crap shoot. Lots of junk out there. Blades too thin, blades to small, diameter too small, blades different diameter and sizes, no cup, too much cup, etc. You really have to be careful with lab props or any used prop for that matter.

The other thing to keep in mind is that when a prop is tuned to a boat it may not run well on another boat. So the lab prop you bought that ran so well on another boat may not run well on your boat.

Thanks for the info Matt,, What would be the equivalent in a hydro to my current 26 B1. I am thinking that a stock 28 B1 would be good, then have you lab it from there ?? But if they hydro's run better then I would definitely like to try one.. let me know.. Thanks Chris

Bravo I props are 1 inch less in pitch than is marked on the propeller. Hydro are true to stamped pitch. So a 26P Bravo 1 = Hydro 25P in a 4B

When you add a blade you will decrease one inch of pitch to compesate for the drag. So you would need a 25P in a 5B.

I have a set of 30 pitch maximus props. Got them box stock for $1195 each. Put them on the boat for testing .Recorded mph from idle to wot. Then sent props back to merc with info.My boat is a 2001, 35' Lightning 500efi mercs brovo 1 drives 150 gears. The boat came with 30 pitch bravos and ran 84 on gps. at 5300rpm full trim. With the maximus 81 mph at 4800rpm. Merc labbed the props for the needed 400 rpm and boat ran 83 mph at 5200rpm.But I picked up 13 mph at 3000 rpm. I went from 47mph to 60mph on a trip to long Island and back I saved 15 gallons of gas with the maximus props. AT 2.75 a gal. it adds up. I have added a set of wipples to my 500's and upgraded the drives with teague gears with a 1;36 ratio now at 93.8 gps 5100 rpm . Just love the boat. P.S. Thank You Pro Roc Brick N.J. for a first rate job.

Matt, seems like a labbed 26-27 hydro 4B or a labbed 28 B1 would be ideal then... Thanks again for all the info guys..
