I dont understand how you guys are getting so many hours. I have a BDS 871 @ 5lbs making about 700 hp. I change the oil every 10-15 hours and had to rebuild at about 250 hours. The motor runs amazing but 700 hours??

How many hours ? Man is this thread misleading to some perspective buyer. Blower motor failures are not a result of dirty oil IT'S CYLINDER PRESSURE AND HEAT ! ie. broken pistons and valves, neither of which are lubrication related. If you don't use the boost they last, if you do they don't. It's really that simple.

You tell 'em big Jim
I hope to get 400+ hrs out of my NEW CHIEF'S, but I also know that ANYTHING can happen. And yes I stay out of the boost most of the time, I just like that fast cruise .

NJ. I only use it on the weekend, and the most of the good spots are close to where I launch. The boating season is short. The crap weather lasts forever. That's the dish.

Oil isn't just a lubricant, it is a coolant also
