Meeting OSO members face to face
 

On another thread Twinn29 mentioned that he had just had lunch with Waterfoul and Cord on their way through Canada to meet another member Biggus. His girlfriend found it amazing that he was meeting up with someone from a web site. A lot of my friends do seem to think it odd when I talk about meeting people from the site.

I was just wondering how many people you have met face to face through this site. I have probably have met over 50 by now, maybe more especially when I think of COPS and LEOPA. I expect to double that number after Key West :D

I have personally met several members through this website, and spoken to others via telephone, that I would probably have never met otherwise.

I've met quite a few. Met several at the Miami show, missed a bunch that I wanted to meet.

Well I've met you Donna, and about 250 other people from here and other boating boards (LSCN). I felt odd the first time I was going to meet someone from a website but that feeling quickly fades. I've met a lot of great friends through these websites.

Good forums like this one bring good people together. I actually met Doug (Twinn29) thru OSO and we only live 40 minutes apart. I made the descision to trailer 8 hrs down to Lake Champlain 2 years ago because of the feeling I got typing to GLH, JS232, Kanookstr et al. What a great trip that turned out to be. I met many OSO mambers on that first Milk run and many more when I returned this year. Hell, I even got to meet the old antique hisself, T2x :). I was able to hook up with Gary(Cig1), Matt(IDRPSTF) Tom (Tom) and the illustrious Ron Songrath(D Man)and even catch a ride on RWD on the left coast because of this board too. I met Scott in Sandusky OH. Talked on the phone with Fred(Too Old), Cord, Rod(RPM) who I bought an Eliminator from,Insptech( who I also bought a boat from) and even yesterday, yalked with the Foul on his way to meet Twinn29. When you first meet someone in person, oft times it seems as though you have known then for years, all due to the time you spend here. Meeting your "friends" face to face for the first time is as easy as riding a bike. Sure you might occasionally meet someone that you don't particularly like or get along with but your chances of doing so seem much less likely because of the boards.

I'm guessing I've met around a 100 OSO members face to face and have become freinds with many. Also bought a boat from a member and sold a boat to a member.

Air we met at the 2nd Milk Run, along with some pretty lit up folks. Met alot of other great folks this year from the board. It was a great summer and look forward to meeting many more. :thumbsup:

Yes, I was able to meet some great people this summer in Vt. at Glh`s fun run. I also had a very memerable ride to other side of the lake with Waterheater and TopDJ in a little less than perfect water.

Also meet Airpacker at the run or should I say at the bar.

I have met a bunch as well.
Everybody has been great!
When people think of meeting someone from the "internet", they immediately think of some creepy story about some guy stalking someone in a chat room etc.
In fact, we had a murder in our rural area related to a "chat room" romance.
There is some wierd stuff out there.

this type of forum, at least to me, is VERY different, in that we all share a common interest-BOATING.
I think if you meet someone for their interest, and not for a "relationship", it is pretty harmless.

I have met around 15 or so from this site all great people. My wife thinks its so weird to meet up with people over the internet like that. She always say to them your one of those OSO guys too they usually get a good kick out of that. This place is a great way to meet new boating buddies.

Basically, just Ron Polli. Great guy, got me on a boat for a Pt. Pleasant race this Summer. At the race, I met a buch of the Jersey Boyz, but if I tried to name them all, I'd miss a few for sure. Great time was had. I wish like hell I could make it down to KW, but it just can't happen this year.
Too many of my friends decided this was the time they'd finally get married.
