B-Max Blackhawk
3 Attachment(s)
I thought I would show everybody what I spent 4 months building. I kept breaking my lowers on the B-Max so I thought that if I had two props that I would reduce the gear load by 50%. I have put six hours on it at 1400HP, haven't lost the lower yet. I am pulling it this weekend for inspection I'll let you all know how it looks. I hope it looks as good as it performs!
Thanks, Tom Earhart |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Tom, what's the top speed of your rocket ship so far??
And, is that an aluminum spacer between the drive and the housing?? |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Waterfowl, the lake where I live is not to big, but I had it to 125mph three times Tuesday. The aluminum is a billet that was machined to replace the B-Max front shaft support and help support the Blackhawk. The Blackhawk is a one piece unit, so I had to saw it into and join the two.
Thanks, Tom |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Familiar with Gun Lake Tom. I can believe you would run out of room, as well as depth! I've actually been to your shop a couple of times. Once to dyno KAAMA Mark's motor with Jim Valako, and once to dyno SuperV's motor with Dave Ritter.

Re: B-Max Blackhawk
EWWWW, question time. What gear ratio? what props? and now the big one....HOW MUCH AND WHEN CAN I HAVE ONE ??????? The only thing that has been stopping me from building big power for my Daytona is the fear of destroying another black hawk.
|
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Airpacker, the gear ratio is 1.33 and I run 31" pitch. 125 mph is about 6200 rpm. My motor will turn 7000 rpm. Cam is 282, 274 @ .050 with 116 lobe centers. 572 Arias Aluminum Chevy with 11.7 deck height, Jessel rocker system, and of course (2) large turbos

Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Nice Job Tom!!! I had heard you fired up the band saw!! I am glad you got it to work and I sure hope it solves the problem. And is that 125mph speed radar by the officals (the boys in blue)? Or dont they have a place to park at the launch and get a shot at you?? Just kidding. It has been a long road, but I think you may have won.. I on the other had am still working at it, with a long way to go..
Congrats!! Dick |

Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Baronmarine, Yes I helped Bill with his boat. We tried several new things on his boat, #6 drive, transmission in the set back, two different X dimensions, blueprinted bottom, and of course two large pulse tuned turbos. Bill always wants to be on the cutting edge and understands the patience required to accomplish this. This is a four year project that we just finished and he is already talking about next years mods. It's a tremendous boat right now, 114 GPS, idles at 450 RPM, and it's a 30' Checkmate.
Thanks, Tom |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
So Tom, do you have any full pictures of your boat???
|
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
that is a great looking boat. i can't believe he was more on the plate. you to some great work!!!!!

Re: B-Max Blackhawk
Tom, Glad to hear that you are getting your combo-together!! Four years is a long time, but now that you can look back, Im sure that you have had a lot of fun trying different combinations. I myself have had a bad year. Kept breaking parts along with bad weather.. I think that I have mine pretty well the way that I want it if I can only keep it together, IF!! I ran 112 GPs at 4900 Rpms and I can run 6150 any day that it feel like staying together, so I should have a good top end. I have not put mine up for the year yet, Im hoping to try it out at least one more time before I put it to rest for the winter..Wish me luck :drink: :D
By the way, do you have any use for another complete polished turbo unit, exhaust pipes,a half mile of steel braded hoses,Polished Alum flame arrestor, complete minas carbs. I took it all off my Sanger before I sold it. and it just sits in the garage collecting dust. Be happy to trade you if you can use it or have something you want to get rid of that I might be able to use.. Anyway Grats to you!!  |

Re: B-Max Blackhawk-Complete Turbo unit, I have..
Tom
I'm sending you a PM on the PFM Turbo that I have.. Les |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
What was it on the BMax you kept breaking?
|
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
HyperBaja: The lower unit, that's why I decided to go with the Blackhawk lower. I had two Blackhawks with broken uppers that I had busted at least four times each. I never broke the lowers, hense the idea of a bullet proof upper with a lower that I have never failed.
Thanks, Tom |
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
What part of the lower?
|
Re: B-Max Blackhawk
HyperBaja: The gear sets, I would see metal on the magnet in about four hours. The last set was the 1.19 ratio. I pull them before they totally fail. I'll take some pictures to show you.
