which handles rough stuff best

Looking for experiences with 26' Sonic, 25' Sunsation, and 24' Pantera. Which handles big bay water the best?

My opinion:
1-Pantera (narrow beam)
2-Sonic (heavy for its size)
3-Sunsation

Re: which handles rough stuff best

26' Sonic - Can't beat the extra 2 feet, plus it's built like a rock
24' Pantera - This ain't no 28 footer.
25' Sunsation - The 28's not bad but the 25' is a bit small for rough water.

I don't want to catch allot of heat for this....
I have ridden in these boats. I really think they are all very close in ride, but very different boats. In IMO the 24 pantera may have a slight rough water advantage. You should ride in all three and see for your self which one you like better.

28 Sunsation is nice I had 1 and loved it in rough stuff. actually It ran better in rough to me

Re: which handles rough stuff best

I can't find any reasonably priced Active Thunders, and I only see older Sutphens out in the used market. I am interested in the 28 Sunsation but can't find any 97-98s to keep me in my price range. I figure if I get the best handling 24-25 footer I can buy a little newer and still handle rough water in the Chesapeake Bay.

24 Pantera handles the rough stuff better than the other two. Doesn't mean it's a better boat for you, but the question was about handling the rough.

I know of a very nice one on the market....

YOUR RIGHT! The Landwalrus's 26' Hustler dominates the rough stuff. It is one tight, well built performance boat. I think it is for sale.

Re: which handles rough stuff best

joe has experianced the rath of the hustler first hand, we ran 70 mph in 4 to 6's in sarasota for 100 miles, big cig's were takin the intercoastal because it was too rough. my self and a 28 pantera just tore it up , gotta give alot of props to the driver of that pantera, he was almost as good as me. the reason I say that is he was claiming 900 horse power and I am running a stock 500 and he could not pull away in the rough stuff, he still ran hard but could not get away, I think it might have been a fear factor, because I was scared at times my self. SO if you are looking for a small boat that will truley dominate the rough stuff, my boat is one of the best, I am not just saying that I have driven and ridden in many boats and my boat is just awsome a 28 panters is an awsome boat but I don't think it has much on mine.

Re: which handles rough stuff best

i will go 49, dude, you could own the boat for 400 a month, and have all the chicks you want, that is a hot boat, i'll even help you arrange the financing.

hugetime1 10-14-2004 08:21 PM

Re: which handles rough stuff best

the differance between 40 and 49 is about 40 bucks a month and you will have a boat you can be proud of. I like this boat so much, I am getting a new one with some huge power, you can verify that with hustler, I have been talking with them about it.

That 26 hustler is definately a bad-azz ride. Jason's is spotless, too. :)
It's definately worth a look!

i have a 1998 29 scarab with twin 350 mags that handles fantastic...i run it inlet to inlet off the jersey shore all the time and has never left me feeling outta sorts. boat is gorgeous and loaded with a 2001 triple axel trailer...$52500 buys the package. you wont find a cleaner boat. i have a friend that has a 26 hustler with a 502 mpi and extension box and he's behind me all the time...reguardless of the water conditions. we've been side by side in 3-5's and he can barely hang..and he knows how to run a boat

Check out Jeff Girardi's video of the APBA 2002 Cape Cod race.
BJ Maher and Mark Schnepf crushed the competition in a 27' Activator.
Let me recollect the boats they just smoked while navigating the rough Atlantic waters. Superboat, Kryptonite, Fountain just to name a few.
Oh yeah, a 30' Sutphen was so far back, it might had well stayed at the dock!

'02 Cape Cod race was one of the roughest ever. That was the ultimate "rough water" test!
