NO, there is no plan whatsoever to close the 10th St. Boat Ramps. In fact they are trying to acquire the land just north of the existing parking lot for more parking.

There are a lot of ideas kicking around what do with with the adjoining area, however the boat ramp is safe.

It was this rumor that actually led to my meeting former Mayor and current city commissioner Lou Anne Palmer. She was ADAMANT in her statements about the boat ramps being safe and was pissed that a rumor was going around otherwise.

I told her of a plan for boat owners to hold a "drive in" protest with everyone towing their boats and just bringing downtown Sarasota traffic to a standstill. She winced at first, then laughed. Said, "that would do it".
She is fully aware of the importance to those boat ramps for our area.
