WTF? Sarasota Boating
1 Attachment(s)
:hothead: Just got this in the mail.
"No person shall operate any watercraft in excess of idle speed within 300 feet of any land in Sarasota County fronting the Gulf of Mexico" also, the entire ICW is at idle speed at they won't open Midnight Pass! They tried to limit personal watercraft and found out the new law encompasses all watercraft. Notice the one small purple area for recreation watersports. Also, New Pass is a joke! Now, Sarasota only has one Inlet now! Only way out is Venice or Big Pass. Who the hell runs this town? Maybe time to move again? I'm buying my own island next time! Look at this map |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
It's bullsh!t...
They just passed this about a month ago. Welcome to the land where a dumb-fvckin-lard-turd animal is placed above people. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
We the tax payers!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE LETTING THE OLD ******* MOTHER F-ERS TAKE OVER. THIS SHOULD BE THE LAST STRAW, ALL OWNER OF POWER BOATS MUST SHOW THEIR STRENGTH. LETS DO IT NOW BEFORE IT TO LATE!!!!!!! OR U CAN BUY A FU-KING SAIL BOAT
I`M PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
It's not the old, it's the bleeding heart enviros...they are of all ages.
Especially since they're being brainwashed at early ages. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
let's organize a loud on the water protest and let them know what we think? Who's in?
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I'd be all for it. Could be discussed at various boating clubs. Outlaw should (finally) be up and running in two weekends.
Joe, who sent that to you? Russ |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
this loud protest, will there be beer there, if so I am in.
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Thanks Russ.
      This is Bullsh*t! Do they want nothing but kayaks in their waterways? They're already a pain in the ass! Sarasota is a very wealthy city and prides itself on being a boating community. What are they thinking about? Start making calls! Let these idiots know WE WILL NOT BE SILENT! SARASOTA OSO BROTHERS UNITE or we will be forced to give up our passion! |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
here is the best way to make our point, we do this until we get listened to. on a rotational basis we go out every night in our boats , maybe around midnight or 1 and just parade up and down the icw and all the canals and let them know that this will not stop until we can reach some middle ground. can you imagine 100 monsters a night just idling around up and down all the canals everynight obeying all there rules. after about 2 months of no sleep maybe they will back off.
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
this would be a great way to beat them while playing by there rules.
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
A NIGHTTIME POKER RUN! Yeah! Can it be done? Sounds Crazy, but I'm sure we have all done worse.
Anybody got a name? besides the Midnight Walrus Run? |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
The same rules run all the way up to the Northern tip of Tampa Bay. They want to make entire areas no-wake zones, like the area north of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
I fear that a "Midnight Run" would only lead to new sound limitations being imposed by the same Bozos that gave us the no-wake zones. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I was thinking of moving to Sarasota but was not able to find work. Maybe city manager is one position I should look at.
Roby |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Im in with the protest thing!!!!!!!!! We need some high perf. boat mfgs. to step in with some arguments too...Maybe George Sr. needs to hear are gripe afterall he's a performance boater too. Tell the insurance carriers to drop the rates since speed is slowly being taken outa the equation. I guess its gonna be HAUL A$$ and dont look back! LOL

Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Wonder how they are going to mark 300 ft. off the Gulf Shore? Maybe put cute little pink buoys or something. I think that Gulf thing is going to be real hard to enforce, for one thing, they don't have enough boats to patrol the Intracoastal and the Gulf.
We could get the whole fleet together and do a "fly by" right in front of Siesta Key and Lido Beach at the same time, then everybody split up then meet back at the Hyatt. Hell they sure couldn't catch all of us. Maybe me, I'm slow. But that's okay, I'll just tell'em my name is Cuda. From Venice south, it's pretty much a 25 mph zone in the Intracoastal, and I used to run around 40 and never even get looked at. It's the rich selfcentered green weenie azzholes in Sarasota that only want blowbotes. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I'm in with the protest!
All I have to say is, we're going to need all the luck in the world to even get their attention. They have millions(literally) of members, dozens of world-class attorneys and lobbyists, and pockets that run VERY deep. Remember, this isn't just a local thing, these mandates come from The Federal Government, State Government and the Department of the Interior(Fish and Wildlife Commission). The government was sued by these whackos, and the whackos won!! We have a very difficult fight ahead of us. Unfortunately, It comes down to Environmental do-gooders who are nobly trying to save poor, innocent, defenseless, cute animals -vs- notibly upper-class snobs with extravagent, loud, smelly, gas-guzzling, dangerous powerboats....NOT my words, but this is the perception. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Is this law in effect today 10-21-04....I am afraid that this will seriuosly affect testing Race Boats in Sarasota.

Here is the link to the recommendations that were made at the September meeting. http://myfwc.com/manatee/Agenda_ItemTB_FWC_Sept-04.pdf
I live north of the Courtney Campbell and was active in the meetings involving our area. It started out that they wanted to put a 25mph limit in the channels of Tampa Bay and no wake outside the channel. Also no wake for everything north of the Courtney Campbell. It turned out better that we thought for us but Manatee County took a hit. That affects us too because we do a lot of boating south. These people are are not boaters, just idiots! Keith |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Well, first they have to catch me. those sarasota police scarabs are pretty slow, and the officers are not the friendly type........exit stage ...Gulf

The law is basically unenforceable in my eyes, but it will basically give them a reason to issue a citation, which could most likely be beaten in court. |

Time for Russ to call upon his freinds in high places.

Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Just a Thought. A protest, Let them know how many people they are affecting. People who pay major tax money on their boats\gas 4 those boats,& water frount homes. The protest should look like the boat races were going on in sarasota.Every person that owns a boat in sarasota should be notified (we can probably get a DMV list?)set A date and a place.Mabe 10th st boat ramp then march downtown? or Ken Thomson Park,Just to let Mote Marine see first hand how stong we are.
WE NEED TO DO SOMETHIG NOW!!!!!!!!! EVERY BODY THAT OWNS A BOAT SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP THE CAUSE LAYERS-NEWS REPORTERS -PRINTING COMPANY-ect. WE CAN ALL WORK TOGEHER AND TRY TO GET THIS DONE. WE WILL NEVER NO IF WE DO`NT TRY! I WILL DO MY PART LETS GET IT GOING. THE CROWN MAN HAS SPOKEN |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I Met Mrs Palmers Dauter In Key Largo In June 2004.
She Was With Her Family And They Arrived By Boat!!!! Mmmmm..... |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
The mayor is no fool, she knows boaters help butter her side of the bread.
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I have a decent relationship with Mrs. Palmer. She was a teacher back in high school when I was there. She was adamantly against any idea whatsoever about doing away with the Tenth St. Boat Ramps, a rumor that got flying around down here.
I will get in touch with her and see what's up. Don't know how much clout she'll have, but she listens, and that's more than most politicians. Especially our County Commissioners which are as worthless as you know what on a you know what. Cuda: I almost remember that picture, that was day two of my fourteen week kidney stone ordeal. And there was a LOT of pain medication involved at that point. |

Addiction was there that day as well.
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
i was too

Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Keith,
I'm right here with you (North of the Causeway) and already have a long trek to get out of the no-wake zones. If they made everything North of the causeway no-wake there would be little reason to keep the boat behind the house. It would be faster/easier to launch the boat every time.

Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
I hear you guys! But what are you guy's doing about it besides bi**hing here on OSO. You guys should really get together and make a protest on the water and have news stations filming the coverage. Get marinas involved , business that deal with boating industry! This is my thoughts!
If they don't hear you they will keep making more laws! |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
The link I provided is the final recommendation that was being submitted for approval. Under each of the areas in the letter, you can pull up a map showing what areas will be affected and how. Better than 80 % north of CC will not be affected as originally recommended.
L9X25 - Where do you live and what kind of boat do you have? I live in Bayside and have a 38 Special named RUCKUS |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Formula (Russ) We still planning a Jan 1 New Years Day run again?
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Isn't Sarasota also the same municipality, who back around 1990, passed legislation outlawing the "thong" (aka dental floss) bikini??

He probably is, he just hasn't decided if he'll make it 2005 or 2006. |
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Ouch, another black eye courtesey of my brother Cuda.
Yes, I another New Year's Day run is in the works. I plan on making it 2005 thank you Cuda. It was Bradenton who outlawed the thong bikini which as I understand is not being enforced. They got way too many applications for the "thong Police" job. I remember that well. Letterman and Leno had an absolute field day with that one, along with our local radio stations. Bradenton was the butt (pun intended) of jokes from the entire country. They just recently lost their "anti nudity" ordinance aimed at the strip clubs. With all the problems Bradenton has nudity should be at about the bottom of their list. I think the New Year's Day Fun Run should be an annual event. I'd rather be boating than watching college football, however if the cheerleaders were not wearing panties, it could be a tough decision. |

New Years "Fun Run" ?......Count me in !!
|
Re: WTF? Sarasota Boating
Even though I don't have a picture of it, I must attest to the fact that "Too Old Jr",aka Formula Outlaw, actually did have his boat in the water that day. That was a mere 295 days ago, and counting! :drink:
