Default It's not an Apache but...

Here is my latest boat it's the old michelob light race boat 1977 38' Larry Smith scarab full stagger,3a drives, kevlar and 3 man bolster. It's needs some work plus engines (anyone?) and a trailer (again anyone?) should be a fun project. Anyone have any pictures would be helpful from the racing days.

By the way i still have the apache.

Ike

That was a great boat. Joey Ippolitto was the driver and it had Jack Stuteville as one of the crew guys, throttle I think.

During that era Bobby & Jacks was THE place to go to have your boat rigged. Bobby of that duo, was of course Bobby Moore, who has a great rep as a rigger and throttleman.

Budweiser put out a race poster with a nice shot of the boat. The gas tanks were made up to look like beer cans. There is also a drawing of the boat with an exploded view that shows the inside.

If I remember correctly the engines were gold. The boat rolled in St. Pete in '78 and cracked in the Worlds in Mar Del Plata Argentina in December of '78. The waves were over 10 feet and many boats had big problems down there.

Bill Elswick's 36' Cigarette sank and he and his crew were picked up by a passing freighter going to Buenos Aires. There were no safety boats allowed on the course, as Chile and Argentina were at war with each other at the time.

That will be a great resto....Larry Smith always put out a superior product.

Good luck
Charlie Sr.

Thank's Charlie, great story. There is alot of gold plated hardware still in the engine compartment which i would like to get redone and shifters/throttles and bezels are also gold. The stringer system is also amazing the way it is designed , looks real strong.

Wow!! Glad you saw the light Ike. I can't wait to get a gander at that machine. Will it be seaworthy next year?
