Bad Experience!!!
Since I cant' do this where it needs to go, I'll do it here, like this so nobody gets pissed, or blocks the thread...and if for some reason it DOES get blocked, then the blocker needs to block my membership too, cause I'll never be back.
That being said, if a supplier tells you about/describes a product to you and when you get it it isn't what they said, or is DEFECTIVE, DONT LET IT SLIDE!!!!! That is fraud and misrepresetation of goods, credit fraud if its on a card, and just plain sleazy business. If you purchase a product they say they can provide, and then they don't/cant for no apparent reason other than selling YOUR parts to somone else who spends more money, then takes over a month to get you yours, tell them to stuff it and go elswhere...their prices arent any better than alot of others, and elswhere you'll get geniune service AND get what you buy...WHEN you buy it!!!! I dont care if they're in magazines OR on T.V.- that doesn't mean they're good, just that they get around. Whether you spend 200.00 or 30,000, you should be treated the same, not like a lesser spender. Yeah I'm pissed, cause I just got jerked around for 1,400.00 over the summer, lost two brand new motors because of it, was told I get some consideration for it if I solved half my problem and bought new parts from them for 4,200.00 more...so I bit. Well, over a month later, and my money is spent, but I still havent received my products...they went out on two complete motors three and a half weeks ago...hummm??? Maybe if I spent more money, I'd have gotten mine first? |

I don't agree with this. If the post was written with info that the board could relate to then suggestions would be flowing and this would be on page three by now with opinions both good and bad  Otherwise it has to be taken for what it's worth :p BTW I'm an old timer and don't consider myself being part of anything other than seeing something and telling it how it is. :drink: |

Re: Bad Experience!!!
If somebody doesn't have a premium membership, then they can't post in the proper section. But if they've been burned by something related to boating, they may have already had their pockets drained and not be so excited about ponying up for a membership. Some guys may be boating newbies and get burned hard enough to want to get out of the "hobby". So why would they want to pay to tell others about their reaming.
I say he should be able to post a boating related hustle RIGHT HERE. It can always "get moved" to the proper place when it is "finished". That's my thoughts. This board is capable of some pretty substantial support. It may be a bit of a swampy moat to swim for a new guy to get "in the castle" but if a new guy makes sense and needs help this place usually rises to the occasion. Now if the guy will just start out with readable sentence structure, give a brief timeline of the events, and provide some specifics... mc |

Re: Bad Experience!!!
This is from another board that kinda explains more............
"Well guys and girls, heres an ending to this part of my saga...Over the summer, finally finish boat...bad headers, hydrolocked motors...too bad, so sad from seller...talked/threatended and finally worked out a pretty crappy deal, but better than nothing???...ordered two pair brand new CMI E-tops on Oct. elenth...call on Oct. 15th to find out when to expect them as weather is getting COLD...find out they havent even been shipped yet, when ordered they were "in stock"...turns out hey WEREN't...will send them directly from supplier(same day)...call Oct. 20th, nothing....call Oct. 22nd, "oh yeah those...yeah those were shipped today...eight days later...call Oct. 27th, nothing, no headers, no reply...call/e-mail on 29th, same deal...call on NOV. 3rd, leave message that if they don't come in by Nov. 5th, I'm cancelling...nothing, and it is now Nov. 9th and they STILL havent arrived. Yes, the address was correct, everything was correct, and they were paid for on the 11th of Oct. At one point, a reason of "its the Miami boat show down here, so they might be closed" was given to me. I don't know about anyone else, but when your TOTAL MARINE AND PERFORMANCE out of Louisianna...I would think you'd be alittle more on the ball than this. So far, I've spent over 6,000.00 with this guy Steve, and he has done an ABSOLUTE $ $ $ $ JOB of every aspect of this whole deal. He passed me off bad headers, cost me my whole summer and quite possibly my two brand new motors, and offers me $ $ $ $ excuses...then seems like he may try to make at least alittle good on his end with a good deal on new ones. So I try to give him and chance and he STILL TOTALLY screws the pooch!! If you ask me, I would warn you on pain of death not to buy nor recommend to buy a dam thing from this clown...his prices arent any better than Ohio Performance, Offshore Performance Specialtys, or a host of others, and his service and customer support ABSOLUTLY SUCKS!!!!! Now, before anybody goes and thinks I'm just a pissed off customer, look at my threads about my headers this summer, and you will see THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF THIS post. I have made a complete and total ******* out of myself trying to be the good guy through all this, and I've truly gotten shafted hard. If I had the time or the money, I would be suing the everloving $ $ $ $ out of him for a whole pile of stuff, missrepresentation of goods, fraud, credit card fruad, etc. etc. I am a good, hard working, decent guy but understand this; first time shame on me, second time, shame on you...I am going to crucify this guy werever I can." |

Re: Bad Experience!!!
Having been through a bad experience with an engine builder from St. Louis, I can understand the frustration. It was an expensive lesson in dealing with people and the issue of trust. But when I read the first post and then the one with more detail, I still can't tell exactly what happened in this case. We are getting one emotional interpretation of what happened without any of us knowing what really happened. At the end of the day it will still come down to intepretations of what was said, promised, or delivered.
After my experience I went looking for ways to make sure I would not let that happen to me again. Still working on the approach, but basically I have come to the conclusion that LIFE IS INDIFFERENT to all of us. No matter how careful we are, how experienced we are in negotiating or buying, how many precautions we take, bad things can still happen. Take time to vent, kick the dog, yell on a message board, whatever you need. If you need to sue, then sue. If you want to get a posse together and "deal with the problem", then go ahead. Eventually you will have to let it go and accept the outcome, otherwise it will eat you up. My last comment - used parts = usually a much bigger risk than buying new. Good luck, Doug |

Re: Bad Experience!!!
No, I don't think he should have access to the Bad Business section.
I think General is where it needs to be. Then it can be determined (exactly as the board seems to be doing) whether he is a griper or if he has a real case. Appears that he has a real case. Sort of. If he bought used headers to start with, it is up to the BUYER to pressure test them, etc. Not the seller. If they were NEW headers, it is entirely a different story. I'm glad his story (from another board) was posted here, but wonder why he didn't start off with a timeline and details... |

Re: Bad Experience!!!
To everyone who read this and replied...I apologize. I was angry and thats how it goes. I am a poor slob that can't afford to pay for a membership...all my money is in my pipe dream of a boat that will most likely never run again. Basically, I got the buck passed to me on bad headers, chased my tail and ruined two motors, got the run around, bought new and got the run around for over a month, because my headers were sold to somone who bought two motors...guess I sould have spent more money, at least I'd hear back. I've called this guy dozens of times, e-mail as well, and it does now good. I have yeat to even hear back from him after cancelling the order. The headers were bought last July, and stored until this August, because I was paying for the boat build as I went, and that was slow. I ran the boat twice for about an hour and had both motors severely hydrolock because the headers are junk so bad they are unrepairable(per CMI) I was told too bad for a bunch of weak reasons...none of which were even close to ok, and decided after awhile that he'd make good on it with a good deal on new. He was thew one who worked thisout. After buying them, I get this run around, no answers, etc. so I'm pissed and letting people know. For the record, there isn't A DAMN THING I haven't tried to be good about, and I feel like a real jackass for that...I guess when you get too big, you can have this kind of attitude. The new headers were bought and paid for and were supposedly in stock, then they weren't (see motors) over a month later and he hasen't even been decent enough to try to see if there is somthing he can do. The killer of all this is, they came in yesterday afternoon, to the wrong address...and I don't feel one bit better. I was thinking about keeping the charges in dispute, and telling him come and get them yourself, but I just want this whole thing done. He doens't seem like a bad guy, but he SUCKS as a business man. I've been treated with nothing but kindness and respect by every one I have met/talked to/dealt with/bought from the last LONG TWO YEARS...and yeah, I'll get over it, but things like this need to be told, so some other poor bastard may go left where I went right. Thanks for the patience, and Expect some lame excuses, etc from him, but remember, I am NOT A LIAR or an anfair person at all. Take it all for what its worth and decide on your own.

Re: Bad Experience!!!
That sucks man. All you can do is look ahead, and not let the past eat you up. (Easy for me to say). You brought your problem to the right place now that we know what happened.
|
Re: Bad Experience!!!
Just curious...did you pay with a credit card? I think if you complain to the credit card company (regarding the potential fraud - you have to call it that, once they investigate it, they will determine if they will call it that) they will investigate it.
Can someone more knowledgable help on this point (if he paid with a CC)? |
Re: Bad Experience!!!
Sorry, a few more small things...the split top headers were sold "fully pressure checked and look good". I pressure checked them too, and yeah, they were good...but JB weld doesn't work very well for repairs on this stuff. The tops and bottoms were welded, so noone could see the cheese repair job to pass them off. NOW MIND YOU, I DID NOT acuse them of this, merely told them what happened, and I was told, they wouldn't warranty them AT ALL because they were bought last year. Then I was told that if I had them checked and they turned out bad, they would have??? What the difference was I don't see, but what ever. I HAD THEM CHECKED BY CMI. Thats who found the repair. This is all splitting hairs, and it can go back and forth, but I'm only explaining myself. I did not try to blame him for the motors...too bad for me, it was my bad luck, but when your in his position, and then I give you 4,300.00 business AGAIN on top of the other EVEN with the stuffing for the other headers, and then you jerk me around for over a month because you sold my headers to a bigger buyer, I feel alittle trashed.

Re: Bad Experience!!!
Dark: I am also some one that has to build my motors slow like you did. That sucks that they will not stand behind them. I bend over backwards for my customers to make sure that things are taken care of. Hell last week I even took a plasma in for repair for a customer that did not even buy the thing from me. He purchased it from the people that started the install with him. The plasma was out of warrantee but I made sure it was covered. It is just smart business as far as I am concerned. Sure I could have sold him a new plasma but in the long run I am guessing that I will sell him a lot more then that.
