My favorite racing......24 hour events. Since the car does most of the work, when I git old like Newman, I'll zip on a track suit and go racing in my 70s. <gg>

How about the guys that run Pikes Peak? One screw up there and your flying 1000 feet down!

Yep, that is how I cut my teeth..KIDS DO NOT DO THIS .....street racing a highly modified 69 GTO through the mountains out west in the 70s. One mistake and you are dead, into the mountain or over the side into the ocean/river. Many crashes by others, but my trusty goat got me through while the mid engined porshes were spining out and blowing engines. I still get my kicks out of attending vintage racing events and watching the mid engined 911s etc. spinning out on all the corners. <gg>

"King of the Mountain" starring Dennis Hopper is good film about that whole scene back then.

I had a 79 TA with a 403 Olds. Id tuck my hair under a ball cap and somebody else would make the deal then after we ran and I won, Id take off my hat and step out of the car and show them they just got beat by a girl. :drink:

Ha ha, good for you. I always thought the 79 TA looked great, without the screaming chicken. I think there was an all white package that looked cool.

Of course, with the 500 HP or so I was runing in my 69 GTO, with desert gears, virtually all cars were toast against me in the "highway adventures". <gg>

I never drag raced as I was not into it. Hence, the car was set up for turning corners at high speeds, and top end, not quarter mile stuff.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie

Yep, I think your turbo car was the fastest TA ever if I remember right. The looks on Ferrari/Porsche owners faces was funny. My goat was all stock looking, but had special suspension pieces and the engine was a built up 400 blue bock with high volume oil pump, windage tray etc etc. The 400s would lose oil pressure in hard turns and I lost one motor because of that, so I was not about to have that happen again. Hence the special oiling set-up.

At a stop light the car would shake from side to side from the high lift cam so it was obvious it was not stock, but on the freeway, the furrin cars did not have this hint that they were about to be stomped. <gg>
