Gotta agree in the racing as of late...early 90's Cup racing was far better than what we see today. I do look forward to seeing the show though...as was said above, hard to beleive it has been 4 years, I miss seeing the man on raceday.....and ironically, he might have done as much for the sport with his death as he did with his success on the course.....

They took racing away from the driver's and gave it to the corporate sponsors. All in the name of money. Let's go back to the roots of how this all started and remember why we got involved. Closing tracks that once were the heart of NASCAR is pitiful. Let's forget about our past and just bury it for a bigger more luxurious stae of the art facility. YUCK !! Hard to say one man made that much difference, BUT for some of us it did. Still have my collection of memorabilia and memories. Thanks Dale #3 |

Earnhardt was special. Like Michael Jordan, he could have stroked it and still collected $20 million annually yet he fought till the end. He was building himself a house on the IC here in North Palm Beach, to keep Sunday Money, for runs to the Bahamas. Sorry he never got the chance to use it. |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
Ive met more than half of the drivers. All of them I have met love the fans and love interacting with them. Because Nascar has grown the way it has, it has attracted fans that are complete idiots. In Juniors book, Driver #8, he tells of walkin by a track and gettin mobbed by the fans to a point that he feared for his life. Ive seen it time and again. Some of the drivers used to take golf carts and drive thru the infield at Talladega but the fans make it next to impossible now.
I love Tony Stewart. He is a super guy when hes not bein swarmed, whether its by fans or by media. Bein a female, I hate to admit that Im a Junior fan. Most people assume its cuz I think hes cute and that I dont know chit about Nascar, cars and engines. I actually dont think Opey is that cute but I do love his attitude and his honesty. I thought his speech at the awards banquent was one of the best. Made me smile. I normally like the less popular drivers. Harry Gant was my man in the 80s, loved the Allisons in the 70s, and Fireball Roberts is still an awesome driver in my mind. Never was a fan of the King but I saw him signin autographs in the garage area in Michigan a few years ago and ya gotta respect that. Bein a Earnhardt fan, I cant like the Bodines but I do wish there were more single car teams and independant owners. Those guys have been squeezed out with no after thought to them. I hate that money is so important in our sport but it is. I cant imagine, tho, any of our drivers refusing to drive until their pay is raised. The tragedies seem to keep the teams grounded. The racin sucks but I keep watchin the cars turn left. I cant help it. Every once in a while, somebody pulls off a move that they shouldnt have been able to make, whether it be a sling shot pass or a 3 wide thru a turn and it keeps me comin back. But boy do I miss the man ...... |

Dale should have stayed around a little longer to teach Jr how to put his hat on and should have spent more time with ward B. on how to talk.

Pretty good movie
I'm sure your Daddy was proud of you. |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
Overall it was pretty good.
They shot that movie in 20 days. They showed 'em having helmet radios a little sooner than they actually had them. I'm guessing Theresa was a consultant for the film. She sure had allot of "big brain" lines! |

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I thought the movie was good. I have to agree on the commercials. They have the DVD coming out on December 14th for sale with 2 hours of interviews, etc. I'm going to try and get my hands on one. I thought the last scene where he waited for his father at the gate was a beautiful ending.
Yes, it did show that Teresa was a major influence. There are two things I wished were shown and/or explained more. One, they didn't touch the DEI Enterprises facet. I think that would have been a major concept after showing the whole trailer side of the story. From nothing to DEI. I really think that should have been in there. The other thing is, Dale Sr. seemed to end up with custody of the kids. Not quite sure how or when that happened (can anybody fill me in here?). But Teresa was shown to really love those kids. She must be an amazing woman on many levels that I never appreciated before. |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I watched it. D.E. was and is one of my top 3 heroes. The movie was o.k., but I am biased , I would think anything about the" Intimidator" is great. Tim Richmond used to hang around the worlds in Key West in the 80's. He spent some late nights with us on Duval. Too bad he's gone too. The man could drive almost better than he partied.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I missed the movie. DE was the reason I first became interested in Nascar. Back in 85 or so, he and Jeff Bodine were going at it pretty good. A reporter asked him if he was going to make up with Bodine. Dale said, "Well, I was thinking of taking him hunting, but I'd make him wear antlers". When pressed more Dale said, "I just ain't got nothing good to say about that pea brained Yankee." It was his personality and driving skills that got me watching Nascar. I tell you this, if I owned a race car, he'd be the guy I want driving it. He never brought any bullets back in his gun. He got all out of a car they sent him to the track with.
The last race I watched was the race he was killed. I remember thinking I hope he doesn't get wrecked blocking for his teamate on that last lap. :( |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
Can you imagine a drive saying those comments now days? Nascar would fine them 50k and dock 25 points. Way too sanitized these days for my taste.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I thought the movie was pretty good.I liked the racing in the 80's and earley 90's. I hate some of the rules like the "Lucky Dog Rule" There is no other sport that lets an opponent have something for free because they are losing. I wonder how the championship would have turned out the past two years without that rule. I remember when guys like Elliot and Earnhart, raced their way back from laps down to earn a win. To much sponsership garbage comes out of their mouths. If i here another driver or crew chief say how proud of his team he is or how hard they work, i think i am going to put my fist through the tv.. How about, my damn engine blew up on lap 4 and i freaking pissed as hell... Time to start being real.... I still watch when i have nothing better to do, but not near as much as i once did.......

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
Interesting scene with T. Wayne exercising his influence, putting DE in the Childress car.Probably no one did more to keep NASCAR afloat during the 70s & 80s.It's too easy to forget just how bad the economy was then and how difficult it was finding money to support a team. No big tv contract then. I recall Richard Childress writing checks and his wife Linda going around and asking people not to cash them for a week or two. They all earned the success they now enjoy.
Popeyes mentioned Tim Richmond. Now there's a "what if..." |

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I gave it a two thumbs up. A lot of history there to cram into just two hours though.
Like many... I too started watching Nascar because of Dale. I remember all the older folks back then (late 80's) complaining about what a rough driver he was. The younger crowd was loving it, we loved watching the excitement and drama, Dale putting a bumper on somebody in the turn... awesome. The "pass in the grass".... and Nascar black flagging him for rough driving at Bristol, then coming back from 2 laps down to win it. Yeah, it sure has changed... I used to be glued to the TV Sunday afternoons, would VCR the races if I couldn't. Now, I can hardly keep awake during a race. |

Isn't that the sad truth! |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I heard that Team V...used to listen to the races on the radio when we were out boating or find a bar with a dock and commander a TV. Now it's .....who won the race today!! Shame! I grew up watching "stock car racing" with my Dad in the late 60's early 70's. My father passed away in '73 but I think he would have enjoyed watching #3 kick some azz!! Good Movie all in all.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
I loved Nascar in the sixties with Petty, super Fords, and the Dodge Daytonas. Hey, the cars actually looked like the ones you could buy in the showrooms, every race was an experiment with new tire compounds, body shapes and oh yeah....none were reversed front wheel drive turd mobiles! I just laugh at it now.
The could have revived REAL racing cars with Mustang, Camaro, Firebird battles, but no, goof ball cars only. Now Camaro and Firebird, two of the absolute best cars ever designed are dead. Sad and sick. |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
My friend, Monte Dutton, covers the nascar races. Hes funny, has no favorite driver and has a strong dislike for the "Lords of Nascar".
This link to an article he wrote kinda sums it up for me ... and Im guessin, alot of you guys too. http://www.gastongazette.com/Portal/...ay.asp?ID=1315 |

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
Yes, excellent read.
Wished I'd known about the "Best of Dale" races. I don't watch a lot of ESPN. But they were great covering Nascar back then, and you could count on them week to week. Now you wonder what time is the race is on, and what network it is on? Fox, NBC, FX, TBS??? |
Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie
It always amazes the double standard Earnhardt Sr's fans have. They love it when he deliberately knocks a fellow competitor out of his way which amounts to nothing less than literally stealing money from the guy, and proudly label him "The Intimidator". Yet if one of these same fans' fellow workers came along on payday and ripped their paycheck that they've worked hard for the last 2 weeks right out of their hand and said - "I'm taking this from you and there's nothing you can do about it ", they'd scream, fight, and probably run for their gun. As long as its done to someone else they think its its ok and the guy doing it is "cool", but if its done to them - Hey NO FAIR !
The year before Earnhardt got killed I read he had made $ 50 MILLION, thats right in just ONE year. So we've got a guy thats worth probably hundreds of millions of dollars and yet if he can steal another race from a fellow competitor by knocking him out of his way he'll do it in a second. For what the money ? If you say thats racing everybody does it then because he was the senior racer and needed the money the least he should of set the example and said lets race clean from now on. But no he did the opposite even when he needed the money the least. Earnhardt got EXACTLY what he deserved and the best part of it was HE did it to HIMSELF. I don't wish him to be dead but I am glad he is out of the sport and I now enjoy watching races so much more because he's gone. |
