That's pretty sad to be happy someone is dead.

FD has been on here over a year, and has only gotten fired up to post about SeaTow and Earnhart. I'm kinda thinking this guy does not belong. Remember the old Sesame Street Song?

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie

FD - Back in the early days when Sr was doin that, nobody had anything, including him. In the last few years, EVERYBODY on the track has major sponsorships. EVERYBODY has money. The few smaller teams that didnt have as much backin, still had backin and Sr didnt just ram people and wreck them. He gave you a chance to move. If you didnt move then he moved ya. Thats why we liked him. Who doesnt drive down the freeway and want to "move" somebody out of their way?

He didnt earn all that money on the track. He was a shrewd business man. The Gordon rivaly? He created it to sell more stuff. Most Gordon and Earnhardt stuff is made by the same company. He knew that Gordon was gonna be big and he capitalized on it. Dont hate him cuz he was rich ... hate him cuz he was smart. Thats one of the many reasons I liked him.

Do you remember where you were when you heard the news?
I was in Indy at the PRI show, the Lakers were in town, and it was half time when the news broke. The complete second half was silent, most of the fans cried the whole time.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie

I still can't watch that last moment of the race. Too much emotion for me.

I was at the Sonic factory picking up a new delivery Sonic. Went to Denny's for breakfast. Got the local Saturday paper that had an article about race drivers that had been killed in previous years. THEN I get home in time to see the Daytona race and well the rest is history. Kind of ironic. Reading an article one day and seeing your favorite driver killed the next.

Like him or hate him. He did a lot for a sport.

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie

I watched the race, and saw the last lap. They headed straight to the airport as soon as the checkered flag waved. I was sitting the airport waiting for a flight when my girlfriend's father walked up joining us (not a NASCAR fan, so this was wierd) and stated that Dale Earnhart had died in the race today. I was floored, and had to go take a few moments.

I was able to catch the last 45 minutes of the Earnhart Movie on ESPN the first night it played. I thought it was very respectful that they did not show the crash in the movie, even thought I was expecting it, since they showed the hit and the slide, but not the wall impact as they faded to white. As SOON as Dale walked into his Dad's arms, they cut to commercial, and it was an ESPN news special, and the immediate thing they showed was the hit, the slide, AND the IMPACT. I dropped my fork as did about 40 other people in the restaurant. It was really REALLY a shock to see it, unexpected like that. I'll never forget any of that.

My nephew was over that day and we were watching the race. My wife and I are huge Dale Earnhardt fans and were on the edge of the couch......The accident happened and we figured all was OK, It didn't look that bad. My nephew packed up and left and I went down to my PC. Turned on the TV and heard that Dale was killed.....I thought it was a mistake but it was all over the TV. Tears ran down my face.......

We had just finish watching the race and we were playing a$$hole (I wasn't working on Monday)...for you hardcore drinkers you know what a$$hole is :drink: . I found out that Clemson (my alma mater) beat #1 UNC in basketball and we started to crank it up. Then we heard that Dale was gone.

We all just kind of sat around in silence drinking for a few hours after that. I remember the next morning I had a new #3 hat on and I put it on the dash of my truck. When people passed me they would give me the thumbs up and wave and all kind of crazy chit for weeks. I left that hat on the dash of my truck so long the sun started to fade it out. After about 8 months I finally took it off and brought it in the house to retire it from duty :( . That day in February is one I will never forget. Ironically it didn't take NASCAR very long to die, in my eyes, after that day. :(

earnhart was a dirty driver "thats racin" is what he always said after hitting an opponent in the azz that was in front of him and spinning them out of the way to win. they wouldn't tolerate that crap in real racing with rules and a governing body the doesn't kiss azz on its drivers. carma got him in the end for all the crapper driving tactics he used throughout his carreer. "the intimidator" he intimidated the other drivers because they new he was a dirty b'stard that would hit them in the rear end and chrash them out of his way if he caught 'em. dale wasn't a good enough driver to wipe michael shumacher's azz. nascar racins crap anyway saving the car for 480 miles then racin for the last twenty. in f1 they race 110% or until they blow up, crash or win. real race cars don't have pushrods or carbs. thank you

No offence taken. Everything you said was accurate.

BTW, I was home, watching the race. Thought it was weird but never dreamed it was bad. Junior running scared me. Ken Schrader motioning for help and then backin away from the car scared me. I still didnt think it was that bad. I had to leave for a while and got back home right after they made the press announcement. We sat on the couch in shock. My brother came running in the door, he had just heard the news. We sat and watched the news over and over. My brother turned to me and said "what do we do? I feel like we have lost a family member and we should do something".

I been a big Junior fan since 1998. I kept think about how bad we felt and we never knew the man. I can imagine what his friends and family were feeling........

clearcut3, the nascar drivers couldn't handle the g forces of F1, they aren't in good enough condtion with the exception of a few drivers. they'd puke up all that lite beer. think about the amount of talent it takes to drive F1. michael andretti went over from cart and got his butt spanked so badly. i don't think he ever recovered his desire to win after being humiliated buy the F1 boys. the fi cars give us all great improvements in the cars we drive today. nascar's low tech rides offer nothing to advance the cars we will have in the years to come, that is unless you wanna change the stagger ( by over inflating your times to change the o.d.) in your daily driver.lol

You guys are comparing apples to oranges.
Every type of racers that are in the top of their sport has been groomed from childhood. Do you really think either F1 or Nascar drivers could handle Supercross or F1 Road Racing. Why not through everyone in a P-51 and see how good they are at air racing.

Not as much talent it takes to drive a Formula One Tunnel boat! Put your F1 car drivers in one of those and I believe they would be the ones puking from the G's they pull!

Re: Earnhardt #3 Movie

Wasnt it the IRL drivers that were passin out from the Gs they were pullin during practice at Texas Speedway a few years back? I do have respect for open wheel drivers. Ive seen tons of IRL races where they raced side by side, tires inches apart, lap after lap but watch a race from Talladega or Daytona. Same thing. Dale Srs wreck at Talladega was way worse than the wreck at Daytona that killed him. Tony Stewarts wreck earlier in the Daytona race in 2001 was bad. They walked away. There is some good racing and some danger in every form of motorsports. I just dont understand why the F1 fans think that racing is better than Nascar. The cars look alike, you cant understand/pronounce the drivers names, the drivers are not fan friendly (from what Im told), there is more follow the leader in F1 than any other series..... the only thing F1 has that I wish nascar would have is tires that can run in the rain.

Think about the amount of talent it takes to drive nascar. If you wanna talk about G's how bout bringing in some NHRA guys as well. This comparing Nascar to F1 is just nuts. Each driver, no matter what league deserves respect for the job they are doing, if it were so easy we'd all be out there doing it.

EXACTLY!

IMO if you want to take a racer who is in the best shape and has the most demanding sport...Motorcycles rule the roost.

As for Winston cup drivers not being in shape...there's only 1 Jimmy Spencer left :D

Those motorcycle boys are nuts. One of our locals hold a few speed records on a drag bike.

I met Jimmy Spencer once. It was on pit road at Pocono, July 2001. Hes a big boy ... I called him a ***** and told him I never forget too! (It was right after Junior had won the July Daytona race and Jimmy said it was fixed). Apparently Jimmy didnt like bein called a ***** to his face cuz he went out and won the pole for that race. :drink:

Bottom line the azzhole #3 is dead, a victim of his very own dirty tactics. If you're gonna live by the sword you're gonna die by the sword. He made all that money now can't enjoy it and leaves behind a legacy of cheating and selfishness that will last for eternity. I've always thought the blind rabid loyalty some fans show him no matter what he does is because they can't succeed at anything on their own and have to hold onto his apron strings, you know like formulaz583 does.
