Dude that last plan is killer. Pam loves it. The only thing we are thinking is to pull down the outdoor fireplace to the lower patio. Anyhow that addition you did made a huge difference.

Oh and can you get me a fax with the dimensions so that we can lay it all out in the sand.

Great! Glad I finally got one that you guys like. Did you want a FP on both decks or just the lower one? I'm trying to figure out how to support the hearth on the upper deck. Usually the hearth is built on solid masonry, but things are getting pretty big. The hearth adds a couple of feet to the chimney size below the deck. That current chimney isn't big enough to support another flue, so if a fourth fp is desired, I'll need to make it larger. Not a problem to do. Wouldn't most people want to sit on the deck, enjoy the view and a fire?

MT-happy holidays to you too! Hope you are still having good luck pushing those rubber doughnuts of yours!

Tim I think that although I agree about the view up there being better, first lugging logs over to that location will be a little bit of a PITA, and also the costs of putting it up there is going to be much higher. This way I can just toss down a big piece of slate, or pavers even. How do you have 3 flues in there now? Were you thinking a fire place in the basement? If we do put something down there I would think that it would be a wood stove?

Yea, I had figured on a FP in the family room. You could certainly use a small stove in there. It's kinda pointless though. The room is really too small to bother heating with a stove. The room that should have the stove is the room that you really want a FP in: The living room.
