Re: Cougar Cats
I've got extensive photography of the old Chairman of the Board/Turkish Express Cougar 39. But I don't have the ability to attach photos on this forum. I'll see if I can put them on a different web site for viewing. I only have a couple scanned right now too.

JCPERF: nice, is that Errol L. in the second pic?

Re: Cougar Cats
Here is a link to a very low res scan of two views of the Cougar 39. Sorry they're so low res. It might be a while before I can get a chance to scan more of the photos at a higher res.
http://photos.wakeboarder.com/showph...at=3091&page=1 I had never seen a Cougar before this boat. When I got up close to it to take the pictures I was kind of shocked that this hull was so successful offshore. It has such a low profile, it's hard to believe it actually works. I can't help but imagine it would be a pretty scary boat to bring off plane in rough water. The tunnel design is pretty interesting though. Not only does the tunnel angle get steeper towards the stern, it also starts out flat at the bow and transitions to a V towards the stern. |

Re: Cougar Cats
JCPERF: nice pics, in the lower right hand corner it says "Offshore Racing Annual 1980", is that a magazine?.....SK-190 thanks for the link, I found a pic of Systems off plane in the rough water and it does look very low. Do you know who bought "Turkish Express", it was for sale on Boattraderonline for a long time and is not anymore, think it was in N.Y....Matt

Here is a pic of a 27 Cougar in 1990. It was driven on the UIM circuit by my friend Graham Peck.

Re: Cougar Cats
I don't know who bought Turkish Express. I talked to the owner a bit and he showed me some pics of it from back in the day. I guess the guy was quite serious about racing. He raced a little in UIM and was one of the original teams to break off and form OPT. He's also got a few other impressive boats stashed in different parts of the world...
The boat was based out of Rochester, NY. I asked him what he planned on doing with it and he did mention wanting to sell it. I didn't know for sure it had been sold, but it was no longer being stored in the same place so I wondered what happened to it. No idea who bought it. I'm a little curious about what is being done with it too. The hull has been raced hard and has the wrinkles and bruises to prove it. The tunnel width varied in areas by as much as a couple inches, although I have no idea how precise an aluminum hull is when it's new. The Khiehaffer (sp?) drives had been stolen long before I ever noticed the boat. Other than that everything was there. Everything was old and weathered, but it was there. He claimed that he also had a total of 4 Lamborghini V-12s (two in the boat and two spares) that he was looking to get rid of. Not sure if those went with the boat or were sold separately. Any idea how much he was asking for it? Would a buyer be more likely to strip an old boat like that or restore it? Are 20 year old race boats valued as much as 20 year old sports cars or not? |
Re: Cougar Cats

Re: Cougar Cats
SK-190: I don't recall how much he was asking for the boat but I want to say it was less than 100 G's with spare Lambo's and a Volvo tow vehicle. It seemed like it would make a great poker runner and you probably wouldn't have to worry about bumping into another one!...Matt

Re: Cougar Cats
That 50' is nice..I also like the smaller 37' and 39' cats, they seem to run well in the rough

Re: Cougar Cats
I think he was asking $55,000...saw it on boatrader.

Re: Cougar Cats
OK, isn't that a deal considering there were 4 V-12's included in the package?
Then again, someone is going to have to put some time in no matter what they end up doing with all that stuff. I'm pretty sure the guy was just happy to get it out of his storage lot. |
