Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Looking at buying a sled. Want something that will handle good and go over 100mph. Will a Yamaha 700 SRX get the job done? Thats for the help....

Speed, yes. Handling, not the the best. I would recommend a F7 (Arctic cat) or a Rev800 (Ski Doo). Both fast enough and the handling is great. The SRX is still a great sled, but there are better options. Just my opinion. I have riden most of whats out there. |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Id go REV, Snowtech rated best sled for '05
Shane just got the SRX but riding hasnt been good so Im not sure if he will have much feedback, Snowtech rated the SRX best trail sled. |

I may be wrong, but Shane had a SRX but just got a new Vector (the new smaller 4-stroke). I think that is the one he got. But then again I have been know to be wrong once before. :D |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Thanks the Ski Doo was the other one I was looking at...How fast is the 800? I heard Yamaha had a better motor. But you always have different opions.

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Ask Mitch. He just bought a new 05 Rev.
|
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I'd get the Rev.

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I went from a Thundercat 1000 to a REV 800 HO. I lost a bit on top end but on bottom and mid I can pull the T-Cat (I still have it) I would not look at anything but the REV. I have 750 miles this year and I am very happy. I have the Renegade with the new 16" wide track. It really can climb, I beat my buddies Mountiancat (1000) up every hill and now I lead because he gets stuck too much. With the aux fuel tank I have 14 gallons of fuel and still room for a bag. The ride is the best part, you can go all day and listen to them bit ch about the trail and just sit and laugh. It is truley a Revolution. :D

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Those two sleds are completely different styles IMHO.
If you are looking for a lake racer go with the Yamaha as it doesn't have the suspension that you will get with the Ski doo Rev....If you are going trail riding buy the French machine!! :D |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I can tell you that after putting 4000 miles on 2 different REV's, a 2003 600ho and a 2004 800ho renegade, there is no other trail sled. Nothin else out there that I have ridden, and I have ridden them all, comes close in ride comfort and trail handling. My 600 will run 105 to 108 and my 800 110 to 115 on a good day. The 136" renegade rides awsome in rough trails due to the extra length. It climbs hills and runs deep offtrail snow like a much longer tracked mountain sled and RER back up gear is the best there is on the market. Whack 162 studs in one and the acceleration on a hard pack will put butterflies in your belly too :)
P.S. Hey Mitch, hows the snow in MI? |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Wow, those 800 will only do 115? I'd thought they were faster than that. My Yamaha 750 vmax 4 does 130.

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Gps,speedo goes to 120

The REV wasn't designed to be a lake racer sled. It is a trail sled. PERIOD. 115 on a bone stock 800cc twin in a trail sled ain't all that bad is it? wanna run fast, buy a ne mach z 1000 and see 125 or better stock. |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I've never had a Rev drive around my T-Cat on the top or bottem end :D

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I haven't had an opportunity to run the new Canadian Government Funded sled yet!!! But I here that the tax payers in Canada have built a new 1000cc sled. Dam French sleds :D

You are correct, he had a triple 700 SRX. He now has the Vector four stroke. :drink: |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I used to have a lake racer and it beat me to death. I realized that the lakes are few and far between and the trail and off trail is 99.9% of what I ride. The snow is getting better here. We lost two feet but there is 2 feet left and it is a nice hard base. The UP is getting it now. Go to johndee.com for the best source. Great site. Packin is right, I have the same feelings about this sled and it only has 750 miles. My T-Cat has 10,000....in 3 seasons. The Fusion is a good start but expensive and more a prototype for the first year. The REV changed 100% in year two. Go with the REV, it is proven. But get it soon or they will be gone. The dealer here checked all over for the 136" 800HO I wanted.

Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
I've got an F7 sno pro and the 800 Renegade. Both are fantastic sleds. You can't beat the EFI on a cold morning or the arm straigtening acceleration of the F7. Still the fastest sled on the market. Yes, even faster than the MachZ in the quarter mile. The renegade has much more controllable power and you don't get beat up as much on the trails. I would say that the handling between the two is comparable. Most people I think would disagree but once you put some bigger carbides on the F7 it handles great. The F7 seems much more stable when jumping, but maybe I haven't gotten used to the renegade yet. Only have 300 miles on it.
The Renegade is great on the trails and even better off trail. The F7 is limited off trail because of its narrow track, just doesn't have the flotation of the ski-doo or any other sled for that matter because of it. That being said it still did remarkably well hill climbing in Wyoming in the Snowies and Sierra Madres but wouldn't compare to the handling of the renegade or a mountain sled. If you're going out west though, I'd recommend a Polaris. I've ridden them and even though I'm not a Polaris fan they are awesome in the mountains. The other reason I'd recommend Polaris is if you have a problem in the mountains good luck finding an Arctic Cat, Yamaha, or Doo Dealer. The M7 is supposed to be a great sled in the mountains as well, time will tell. I'd recommend puttin the F7 engine in the Renegade chassis and adding reverse. Sled when you can't boat! |
Re: Question on Snowmobile?? for the northernpeople
Hey Shane I just got back Monday from STZenon. The trails north of Cabanon are the best.Watch for a few icy corners close to the towns.Enjoy the new Vector,it should be great on those trails. The Revs are a bit top heavy for fast cornering, but handle the bumps great. My SLP piped viper outran two 800x revs all weekend on the lake and in the trails.
Be safe and have fun. |

Do you think it maters to the SOBs that give out the money....Both companies are in that "other country" :D Just joking Louis makes a pretty good sled next to ARTCO |

I'm not saying these are not fast sleds, I was just surprised that in the last 10 years their not faster. The new sleds are defiantly well engineered and actually a bargain, I paid 8500. for mine new in 1992, so 10,000 grand for a sled with better tec. is a deal. The Firecat F7 is a great dealat 6,500. thats what my son inlaw paid for his, it will do 115 pretty easy, which is'nt bad for a 700.efi |
