That may have been mine sitting there then, but I can't tell from the picture. The two boats are nearly identical with the exception of the air scoops. My scoop was on the top of the canopy and the other one had the scoops on the side of the canopy. Here are a few pics of our Gladiator under construction. When these first two pics were taken, the boat that Dhlaw has was at the factory doing some water testing. The last picture was just before our boat's first race. We threw our number on it just so that we could run it and then took it back to Florida the following day to be painted.

While our boat was in the shop being wired, this is what Dhlaw's boat was doing. Testing, testing, testing. This was roughly 2 months after the picture posted by Open72, so his picture could very well be of Dhlaw's boat.

Here is the first of the three canopied Gladiators. It was similar to the last two, but the the major differences are that the canopy was not as tall, it was not staggered and the exhaust came through the transom rather than through the top deck. In the last picture here, you can see that there is not much head room. I am only 5'9" and my head hit the ceiling a few times while we were running it, even with the belts as tight as possible. If you compare this one to the other two, you can see that the canopy is substantially taller on the last two boats.

For somebody considering Dhlaw's boat, keep this in mind. It is one of only two in existence. The canopy was cut off of the first one so there are only two canopied Gladiators left. Skip Braver bought Cigarette when ours was just about finished. He said that once ours was finished that they would never build another canopied one because it took too much time and was not cost effective. I think that a lot of it may have been that Skip did not want anything to do with racing and I honestly think that if it had not been for Phil being there every day, they would have cut some corners on mine just to get it out the door and to get rid of it. That's the feeling I got anyway.

So, for somebody looking for a very unique boat, this is it. It is clean, it handles well, it looks awesome and it is fast. Also, with the taller canopy, the issue of hitting your head on the roof is solved. Even if you don't want to race it, buy the boat, install a small AC system and a nice stereo and you will have an awesome poker run rocket that is guaranteed to turn some heads! Not to mention that with it being plain white, you can do anything you want to the exterior! Damn, now I am starting to think that I want it. Do you see what you all have done!

Yes. Mine was a 2003 as well. It is now owned by my old racing partner who is also my cousin. He renamed it "Wanted" and is still racing it. Here are two pics of it from Key West this past November. I don't know who took these pics, but they are fantastic.

It has always been my contention that former race boats make great pleasure/poker run boats because of the way they are built. Rarely does a pleasure boater dish out the kind of punishment these boat are designed to take therefore they last forever. I have always had a thing for boats with a pedigree.... this boat and my prior boat have pedigrees. It is also evident in the speeds that they run with stock power. Put a few whipples on this bad boy and you will be waving bye bye to alot of people without even getting your hair out of place!!!
