Yall got a lot to learn!! . Listen to the ones that say Don't wax the bottom.
Now it will help one keeping the bottom clean..And on the sides.When I wax the side I notice that when you run the boat that the wax wears off as water runs across it. One example is look at the bottom of a American Offshore boat. or look at the bottom of Reggie's 42 he set the record with :D 600? |

Wax does slow down the boat, but the difference would be measured in 10ths of a mph. I wax the bottom but first......Use Starbright ON/OFF to clean the bottom. Do not get this stuff on your skin. I usually mix it with water 50/50 and use a brush to wipe down the bottom of the boat. Wipe it down twice in 2 minutes then rinse very well. This stuff will clean out the pores in the gelcoat and get rid of any brown "river" stains you might have. The problem is that those pores are now open, the staining will come back much quicker. But those open pores trap little air pockets which "help" the boat go faster. Waxing after this cleaning fills all those pores with wax and keeps the bottom clean until the wax eventually comes off. ( until then a simple wash will get anything off the bottom).

I wax the bottom of my boat twice a season and will continue to do so. I'm not really concerned about losing a little bit of speed for the ease of keeping it clean!!
