Re: Four Winns Unlimited U-19
I believe the handling problems were caused by using a Volvo Duoprop drive, not a good idea on a 7' wide 24 degree Vee. With a single prop it should handle fine, like a Donzi Classic(which it basically was) Just another example of why corporate raider type executives should not be allowed to design boats :drink: Enjoy your boat,it's a neat model that got a bad rap from Powerboat. Remember that they also said a Donzi 22 Classic with an HP500 had too much power, when actually they had no clue what they were talking about.

Toys for tots
Yeah that was me at the toys for tots run, there were some sick boats although some couldnt make it in that chop. My brother's 21 superboat was there too - baby blue. By no means am I saying that my little inboard outdoes my brother's superboat. They're very different boats that can't be compared very easily. The only reason I bring it up is that I run my boat with my brother's often and its my point of reference.
Superboats are awesome! |

We were there, but had to make a premature trip to the trailer. :(

David - that brocure pic was shot on Torch Lake in Michigan in the summer of 95. As I recall it had its debut at the Grand Rapids, Mi Boat Show in 96. Yes - Powerboat Mag chewed on it a bit - called it unsafe at any speed. I remember there was word that the tester for PB Mag was unaware of the hulls origins and/or he had a grudge with Marketing Dir. of Four Winns. Ran with a few before on Lake Mi. and there were no probs during the photo shoot -when they got the crap beat out of them. Probably the best first hand source for history on the Donzi hull while it was in the hands of Four Winns would be Dave Sundin - he is at Crownline Boats down in West Frankfurt, Ill.

U boat
Wow, thanks for all that great information. I'm going to try to get in communication with Dave at Crownline as soon as I can. If anyone can come up with that article from Powerboat Magazine that would be great.
I guess Im glad i dont have the duo. Why is the Unlimited not a good application for the Duoprop? |

Duo
Hey Magic,
Why would the duoprop cause handling issues on a smaller boat. I know I've never seen it on such a small rig but never really knew why? SO i guess there are no other U-19 / U-17 owners out there who check OSO regularly? |
