MSD Brackets
Anybody seen brackets to mount a MSD box and rev limiter to the motor in front of the starboard head?
It would have to clear a water pump and hose to Merc HP 500 thermostat housing. I know CP Performance has a bracket that mounts to the back of the starboard head, but they will not clear my HP 500 oil coolers mounted crosswise over the Bravo bellhousing. The same bracket could be used on the front of the port head, but that puts the ignition very close to the alternators which I think may cause a problem with electrical interference (?). It also will not work for the starboard motor as the power steering pump is mounted there already. Trick Marine has a bracket for over the back of the motor, but I don't think it will clear the oil cooler or the Mercury electrical bracket (HP 500 carb) where the 50 amp breaker, starter relay, and main harness plug-in is. I currently have them mounted on the transom, but they would be very hard to access if there was a problem because of the storage tray under the rear engine hatch in a Formula 382. Any other ideas for a mounting location on the motor? Any stainless fabricators interested in working with me to develop such a bracket if one does not already exist? |

If you have access to a band saw and drill press you can make one pretty easy out of billet plate. I made this one, with the cannon plug. Pardon the mess, this was a test run after the dyno to check my wiring.

I made mine out of alum, Now that I am getting the Whipple I have to remount it.Prob make it out of stainless next time
I made it with the rive nuts[blind nuts ] so if ya have to take it apart ya not fumbling with the nuts and washers .I put it on top of the ECM bracket and put 2 blind nuts in the ecm bracket also. Cost?Free :D Buddy had some scrap and I used his break. |

Those type brackets are not too hard to make if you have access to a saw or mill

As long as his name doesn't start with N! :D Got some re-rigging I'm going to do this winter. I'll be down at Chuck's warehouse pulling motors around 1 P.M. I'll try you then. Thanks Jim. |
Re: MSD Brackets
Did someone say 'stainless fabricator'? Now you're talking my language! :D
Let me know if I can help a brother out. |
