RVEST,
We had the boat transported from CA Full of fuel (800 gal) and it weighed 46,200lbs. You would most likely want to adjust for engine differences. In addition the drives we have weigh more than the ones on your boat. |
Re: Cary 50
The yanmars are 6CXM-ETE 375/420 turbos. As for the drives, they are a one of a kind. I'm actually pulling one next week and will weigh it for you. My guess would be around 300lbs. ea

Your hull number should be on the stern/starboard up towards the top.
My boats number is: CRM22140F687 The only bit of the code I think I know is the 87 at the end represents the year it was made. Brad |

Re: Cary 50
those Cary's are sweet the one on miami vice last night must of had about 30000 hp because right before the race Don Johnson said he had his guy install turbos on the Chris Craft and that Cary had it till the end.....lol
nice boats |
Re: Cary 50
My hull# is 41 based upon the above formula. By the way if anyone does surface drives on your Cary 50 you'll most lilkely be looking for very low pitch props. Mine came out to be 18X20's. The only place I found with decent pricing on this prop was Pacific Surface Drive Inc. at $1,500 per prop.

Does any one knows were to get the rubber gasket around the windshield also need gasket and glass for the hatches

Hey Jeff: Have not scene you in awhile, while except on monster garage. It did not seem like you and Jesse really hit it off. You should stop by the car lot sometime to shoot the Sh#t.

Just in case anyone needs new cupholders, cabin door or anything acrylic for the cary it was made by Lakeland Plastics 616-846-0261. Haven't checked the number in a while but as of a couple of years ago they were still in business. Brad |

I was told the same thing about the hatches. We lost one in transport to VA and the front windshields. I had the local glass company take care to the windshield glass and made the front locker hatch myself out of plexiglass. The interior hatches leaked but we cleaned them with rubber cleaner/conditioner and they are now sealing like they were supposed to. Hope this helps, Clay

Thanks rbhudelson
Looks like I am going to use some standard hatches and fab some pieces to make them fit. Now that I think about it you are probably right on the automotive sun roofs |
Thanks for the lead on the hatches were automotive sunroof's found parts

Hi Clay: Did you check to see if the trim tabs will fit??

Mike J, things have been really crazy with the pool business. I haven't had a chance to even check. I will try to measure this week. Clay

thanks, i have pics if anybody is interested I sent you a PM with my number. Give me a call and I'll talk to you about it. But by all means - post the pics! Brad |
Pics are aways good! As far as the value? Hard to say. There are several that have been for sale for quite awhile. there aren't that many people willing to spend 100 to 150 grandfor a project boat. Even cream puff of that size and age in running condition will take alot time and money too keep it top shape.
Having said all that, I wouldn't mind taking on a 50 Cary project boat. I'm the kind of odd person that likes to spend all free time and money on a big old boat. If I was repowering one it would get triple diesels and Arnesons! Now you are talking about 150 grand in just engines, trans. and drives. (assuming you are installing them yourself)That's not including all the other crap you have to buy just for the engine room. O.K. now it runs. We still haven't addressed upholstery, paint, cabinetry, etc. etc. So I would say be very careful on what you pay for it. |
Here are some pics of the Cary 50 i know of for sale...she is located near tampa..

I know the boat fairly well. It is a $300k to $400k project. Plus, unless you are going to use it as a fishing boat I'm not sure what you are going to do with the 500 gallon live well that was converted out of the aft cabin.
feel free to call the number I sent you in the email yesterday. brad |
That video is great, I could go on and on with the way they drive a boat but watching that C 50 run was cool. And yes, I know the cat would have one and the C 50 would have been dead last, unless it had twin turbines. Like Nort showed, that would be perfect, tons of room, tons of transom, it is just a perfect set up...so do it. We have a few 50s, 70s and I think it is a 45, called Scary 45. I love the hydraulic hatch, that thing could launch a person.:D Plus the entire floor from the helm back went up, like 10x20:eek: He bought his in good shape for 80 or so. With 2 nice diesels you would have a great boat. That project one is a bare hull, it would cost 150,000+ so the hull should be free. Down load the clip, it is good. I am at 100 Mbps and it took about 3 minutes.
|
One more thing, those hatches are great for bottoms up viewing, we had a riot one day, we would have someone topside lure the women over the hatch by talking to them, then we would all look up....we tried to find women with shorts on hoping to see clam but we never did, we did see lots of camel toe though...:-))

I have a Myco trailer for a 50 Cary, tandem dually 22.5 semi set up with air brakes. Would like to sell it if anybody needs one.
Pete 954-931-9111 |
I have air bags and a 1 ton rear from the lift but I may need to gusset the axle and diff if I want to tow that with the Excursion:D Is this a 2" ball or a 2 5/16ths:D That would be a pull, a decked out Freightliner 4 door semi would be a sight to see on the highway. I wonder what you would do at the ramp???:D :D That Cary is and always will be the poster child for a sport cruiser.

no phone numbers in those days?
"Write the builder for more information" tnks for posting I like old boat stories. |
It's to bad so many Cary 50's have been canniblelized. They do require a lot of time and money but well worth the effort if you can find one in decent condition.

I'm looking at an '86 50' on Lake Erie named "NAIL IT!!"
Is anyone familiar with this boat? History? Photos? poolsinc1 . . . I've got a friend here on Lake St. Cair with a Super Nova 19, too! Named 'SUPER BUZZ!" |
Check this out. Stumbled upon it last week. Some good shots of the Cary. :ernaehrung004:

Regarding speed I'm told that brand new they all ran at 60+ MPH. Fuel bill has been painfull I have 4 flowscans that I'm going to dial in.
