Re: Cary 50
Give me a few minutes to figure out how to post picks
Seriously considering the turbine it would be a great connection with my business but it will take a lot of planning so that is a future project |
Re: Cary 50
Where did the boat come from. We just traded one to lake cumberland marine about a year ago.
|
Re: Cary 50
This is your old boat you traded for 2002 holiday rambler imperial

Re: Cary 50
There was a board member, HotRodder??? that had one with 4 Merc 420's/TRS drives. Is he still out here?

Re: Cary 50
Yea it is my step dads old boat. We went to Charlotte in the coach last weekend. I looked at several approaches for repowering that boat and some big diesels and arnesons would be the best.
|
Re: Cary 50
How fast is something like that with the 420 engines?
|
Re: Cary 50
Love that boat ..
|
Re: Cary 50
now you just need a 38 scarab KV..... :D
|
Re: Cary 50
Low 50 at best, as long as you can keep them all running.
|
Re: Cary 50
Guillermof...what would you like to know about the Cary 50? I am the captain of 2 Cary 70s and a Cary 50 in North Miami, and could probably be of some help assisting you with your boat. What part of the country are you going to be using this boat in?
|
Re: Cary 50
I love Cary boats. They are just so classy. Anyone got cabin shots of that 70?
Roby :fish: |

http://www.robak.net/downloads/movie...arthy-Race.WMV Never would have believed a Cary 50 could beat a twin outboard cat till I seen it with my own eyes ...bwahahahahahahahah :drink: |
Re: Cary 50
that is one sexy boat I love the lines congrats on your new ride keep us posted on the updates
|
Re: Cary 50
Hey, I use to work for a company that installed carpet for Cary, we did all kinds of crazy patterns, the owner had bad eyesight but had a hell of an imagination. We did a black one with all crazy colors. I think it was in 85, 86. The factory was in Grand Haven, I belive they owed Harold alot of money that he never collected. It was a blast. We got a ride on a demo all I can remember is how close the water came to the back of the boat

Re: Cary 50
Yea, that video clip of that race seemed to be the slowest race in history!! No way that Cary 50 would outrun that Chris Craft or that twin O/B boat, since the 50 was probably running low 40s the whole race!
Anyways, to answer the question about fuel consumption...the newer Cary 50 has twin 12V1602 TI MTUs coupled with ASD #12s and 28" 5-blade Rollas and burns at cruising about 80+ gallons an hour. We cruise at 40knots @ 2,000 rpms. The fuel tank has a 550 gal capacity. The Cary 70 has an 800 gallon fuel capacity with 12 cyclinder Deutz MWMs coupled with ASD #14s and 6-blade Rollas and burns around 100 gallons an hour at 36+knots @ 2,000rpms. The Cary 70 Turbine burns around 400 gallons an hour when cruising with the turbine on (same Deutz engs with a LycomingT150 turbine) since the turbine sucks about 300 gallons an hour when cruising. Hope this helps! |
Re: Cary 50
Hello Guillermof, I was involved in a rerig of a 50ft Cary
on the West coast from 4 454s with TRS drives TO 4 Yanmar 6CXM-ETE side by side with Surface Drives and Rolla props. Email me and I will send some photos, And tell about some of the problems of this converison. Mike J. |

Also, what speeds resulted with this conversion and do you know the dry weight of the boat after the conversion was done? That's an intriguing conversion, I've thought about what a Cary 45 would be like to put 2 Yanmar diesels with ASDs and a basic cabin layout, nothing fancy. I bet you would get some decent speeds, relatively good fuel consumption, a great range, and a very reliable and durable offshore boat. |
Re: Cary 50
Peter Pavkovich has one with 4 Horizon deisaels in it. Works great, and I'm pretty sure he's happy with it.
|
Re: Cary 50
Send me a Email and I will send photos, My webtv will not
send or receive photos. Oh the surface drives that were installed when I got to the project would not work right and would not steer the boat, We got some one finger waves from some sailboaters who thought we were trying to run em down the first time out. Mike J. |

Re: Cary 50
I almost bought a 50 Cary recently. Then came to my senses and decided to sell my current ride first. I love those boats! Congratulations on your new purchase. Hopefully I will have a sister to it in the near future.

Re: Cary 50
I have a good friend that has one with twin diesels, cant remember the name, but they are based on the old ford truck motor with multiple turbos.
It has twin arnesons it tops out about 50, he runs it about 40 all day long, pretty good on fuel. CM |
