We just bought this Formula!
 

For those who remember my thread from a couple of weeks ago, I needed to convince my wife that a performance boat was a better choice for us than a cruiser. The argument that won it was the big difference in cruising speed, and therefore the ability to cover distance in shorter times in bigger water. We have several restaurants we love to go to by water, but in a 21' ski boat it's a stressful ride to go any distance at LOTO. Thanks to Chart for the tip!

Boat is a 1996 F-336 SR-1, 502's, K-planes, docking lights, refrigerator, shore power, bimini top, aluminum trailer, electric bolsters & footrests....just about every factory option. The graphics are titled "Flashpoint", which was a 1996 only offering, and according to the factory only a handful of 336's were built with it. The only negative is that the engines have relatively high hours, so I've managed to negotiate the price to accommodate rebuilds. We won't use it a lot for next 2 seasons anyway, so I probably won't have to worry about it for awhile. When I rebuild, my goal is 500 HP, while retaining the stock look.

I have dozens of photos of the boat thanks to the dealer I'm working with, so I have a pretty good idea cosmetically what kind of shape it's in, but the survey (scheduled for 2 weeks from today) will tell me the rest.

Also, thanks to the many contributors to this board for the terrific advice and hints. I might not have had a survey done had it not been for reading some of the horror stories of those who didn't.

Anyway, congrats on the new boat! It's really a nice looking boat and your wife will love the performance better than the cruiser (at least until it's time to climb up into the V-Berth :D )

Did your boat come from TN. If so I have looked at it and it seemed to be a nice 336. I am sure you will enjoy it. Run the HIN by Formula to get the original equipment build list.

Thanks all for the kind words. Can't wait to see it in person; 2 weeks & counting...

I expect 70 with the stock 502's (boat is 8450 lbs dry); after they're bumped to 500 hp I hope to see 77+. I'll be thrilled with 50 mph crusing speed.

Looks familiar. Did you buy it from Erwin Marine? They have one location 4 miles from me. The other location is in Chattanooga TN. At one point they had two just alike but with different power.

Welcome to the family, you're going to love it. Great looking boat. I wouldn't worry too much about high hours on those mags, they run FOREVER. A guy in my boat club had 550 hours on his at the beginning of last spring on his 38 Fountain. He said all he's done is change exhaust and change oil. This guy runs the piss out of it too. I didn't see him last summer after I moved, but I'm sure I would have heard if he'd have blown them, and I guarantee you he probably put on 200 more hours the past summer. Enjoy it! :cool:

Formula builds a great boat that holds its value well. Everglades Marina was a Formula dealer when I worked there many years ago. I got to know the Porter family and they are truly good people.

Back then they were building about 1,100 boats per year, so the attention to detail is very good.

Because those are EFI engines, your surveyor can scan the ECMs and confirm running time hours and check for trouble and fault codes.

cuda is correct that those engines should last with good exhaust. If it's a fresh water boat, the exhaust will last longer.
