Pantera & Active Thunder
How does Active Thunder stack up to a Pantera? I know the Pantera has a great ride I have a 28.How does the A.T. ride and speed compair to the Pantera???
|
Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Can't help you with the comparison, never rode on a Pantera, but it should be real close from what is said. I do know that the consturction on the AT is top notch and it is a south florida boat made for the rough stuff. Hopefully someone else has more experience with these two boats. Are you thinking about changing boats? If so you should look at the 32 AT.

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
If the right Thunder came down the road I might think about. A 28 with a nice single in it.

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Craney,

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
I had my 28 .8 Sunsation off the NJ shore several times I loved that. But No twins in the 28.8

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Two great boats.
I worked for Patrick at Active Thunder for a while years ago and I understand his commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. He is constantly upgrading and improving his product and uses the latest and most innovative ideas in construction. A small down-turn in the economy does not affect the Active Thunder as Patrick has a thriving, well established body shop business that can more than sustain him through slow times. Pantera. The new 36' Survivor is a vision to behold. It's new, exciting and also innovative. Like Active Thunder, Pantera will custom build you whatever you desire, (within reason, of course), at a fair price. Pantera is a family-owned business for over 30 years. Pepe Nunez is the famous racer from my era who handles the construction and day-to-day operation of the actual boat building. His son, Jo, handles the marketing and sales department along with the racing program that put Pantera on the map. In the office is the adorable Linda Nunez, Jo's mom, who handles the office duties. Pantera has kept the 28' traditional with little changes over the years. It has been very successful and continues to be a popular offering along with their 25'. I have surveyed many of the above boats over the years and have found both to hold-up well as used watercraft. Both get about the same respect on the re-sale market. These are both small, low volume companies and be prepared to wait for your ordered new boat. I feel you can't go wrong with either one. Do a sea trial in both of them and see which one makes the hair on the back of your neck stand-up! |

Here are pictures of a new Pantera 36' Survivor that we just completed. It was custom built for an OSO member named Scott Ferguson. We are very excited about our new 36' Pantera Survivor model. The boat really performs out in the Ocean and we have invested allot of time and effort on its appearance. We have Pantera 28' customers that are moving up to this new 36' model of ours.
We are offering this new 36' in a twin stepped or full 24 degree deep V.We allowed enough room for a side by side or a staggered engine set up. Full or half cabins available. No two boats will ever look alike.Custom paint work and different Gelcoat colors are available. On this 36' our customer decided on having us put together a 3 divisional custom rear bench. We went with Platinum gauges and Billett Platinum throttles. Regards , Jo - Pantera Boats |

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
I just want to jump in here and add my 2 cents.
First of all I don't know anything at all about the Active Thunder boat. From everything I hear, it is a very good boat built by reputable people. I do know about Pantera though. I raced against Pepe 30 years ago in boats that we made using the best material available at that time. There were some guys who came into the sport and you took one look at them and their equipment and you knew right away....this guy is not going to be a problem. That was never the case with Pepe. He came prepared to win...every race and at every venue calm or rough. You took him seriously, because you knew that he built a boat that was going to last and he took his time in putting it together. Back in the days before really big money came along, preparation was a big factor in winning. Pantera was always well prepared. This should be an important factor in your decision for your next boat. As the man said, you get what you pay for and that can mean time as well as money. If a Pantera takes a little longer to make, the boat you are getting is that much better prepared for any kind of water. Experience cannot be purchased,it has to be earned. Give some hard thought to a Pantera before you make that final choice. |
Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
I really like that new 36' , post some more pics of the cockpit, cabin and engines, would really like to see what other boat builders have.

Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Hey Top Banana, how are you? Have you heard any news on the Miami to New York race? That is definetely our type of race! We have to take Mr. Cozy in the mix for that one! Maybe if we get a lot of us older guys we can have our own class!!! "The Senior citizens class" I will be 55 on tuesday, can't wait to go to Denneys restaurant and get my discount.
On a more serious note I remember back in 1976 Bacardi race you were running your modifed class 24' Banana going thru the rocks by Bimini and your navigator kept looking at the clear water over the side of the boat, I could read his mind that he was worried about running aground! That water nust be 15 to 20' deep, but it looked like 10" deep. AHH, that was OFFSORE racing @ it's best. Later, Pepe @ Pantera. |

Here is a sneak peek of a new 36' Survivor that we are working on now with a custom Cobalt Blue Gelcoat with Platinum. This 36' is also being powered with twin 525 EFIs.
Ed, They have done real well there first year with it.They have placed in the top 3 in numerous races in Europe but are fighting drive failure due to big power. The team is making some changes to the boat for this coming season. I would like to go over there this year and run a race. They run in big water from what I heard all year long. regards, JO |

This 36' has a half cabin.I will take pictures tomorrow morning. We offer the 36' model with a half or full length cabin. We cruised at 4400 - 4500 RPM at 75 MPH with alot left in it.
This 36' has a full 24' degree deepm V bottom. We also offer our 36' "twin stepped" bottom design. Our F2-71 powered by twin 525 EFIs will run in the 93-94 MPH range on GPS with a side by side setup and at 9000 pounds due to APBA F2 rules. We are also restricted on drive height. The full pleasure model 36' will actually weigh about the same or a little less than the F2 race model since we have added ballast weight in it now to make class rules. Regards, JO |
Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Jo:
Is this a full-cabin boat? Ed |
Re: Pantera & Active Thunder
Hi Ed,
This 36' has a half cabin upon customer request. It is simple but done right. It is just about as big as his previous 28' Pantera cabin. Regards, JO |
