They use small jets made using turbocharger rotating parts and custom assemblies. Early models ran on propane, latest will run on kerosine. We have a couple at work, about $3500 each last I priced one.

Re: F-14 Model Jet: What turbines would they use?
the ones made from turbo's are old school
about 10 years ago they had kits and plans you could buy to biuld them. very difficult toi biuld an dthey were finicky due to manual (basicly jerry rigged) controls
the new ones you can buy biult from engine biulders (sorry can;t remmeebr any names off the top of my head) but they are computer controlled (as in come with thier own brain boxxes) and not cheap
buddy of mine has bene wnating to buy one just to setup on a bench and play with.

easy to drop 10k on the motors and control system for a twin mini turbines
I just saw a B52 with EIGHT of those in it , I would say it was 15 foot wingspan
biggest damn flying model I ever saw

Back in the 1980's i was on the USS ENTERPRISE and a guy brought a similar jet to the base in Alameda Ca for some kinda air show,he told me he had a 100k wrapped up in it but it seemed about twice as big as the one in this thread,Smitty
