Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
glh. sorry the molds that fountain lays his race boats in, is the same molds you buy as a pleasure boat . the onily thing skater did was change the deck mold to, two canpies . the hul mold is all fountain and the 3 gen hull is fountain . he is all the time changing his bottoms . :drink:

Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
Fountain makes their run on their HOME course. Unlimited supply of help, parts, and equipment. ON A RIVER! Rivers flow. Just a bit of an advantage, don't ya think. Secrets! I believe Mercury Racing was founded on the basis of secrets. Lake X carries alot of secrets. Let these two companies fight it out for V speed supremecy. Fountain can't stand to lose.

I would like to see a speed run with stock 525's that would truely show the better more efficent hull design.

Ron P
The closest large airport would be in Lexington KY. There is a decent size airport in Somerset just no commercial flights. Lexington is going to be about an hour and a half away. The site says they are running in fishing creek which is a large tributary. The commercial marina closest would be Lee's Ford Marina. They have places to stay and you should be able to goggle up some info. SIGN4BOAT may be going to watch you could PM him he lives just west on Lexington. |

The end of Lake Cumberland that is supposed to be used for this run is always full of debris this time of year. They intend to clean it up but can you imagine smacking a floating log at 185 mph??? There will be history made, one way or another. They ought to do this run in the main lake down between Jamestown Marina and the dam. That end is much cleaner. Plus, that way I could get out there to see it!!! |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
I feel the this contest for fastest V is great.
However if OL is really going to do some secret run without inviting Fountain. That is the most disrespectful piece of chit company. I form this opinion over the fact that they talk so much chit then when it came time to put up or shut up the world saw what happen, OH yea it was at Fountain and Reggie did invite them to run at his expense. If OL cannot show the same respect back, then it just proves what type of company they are. WILL :drink: |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
Morning.
Just a thought- It is a fact that a boat is faster in saltwater because the density of the water is higher. Does anyone have any info regarding this (REAL INFO!)? So, if that is true, why would OL not run in there own backyard. It is obviously colder, too. |

Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
First- A new 42 Lightning w/ 525's is good for about 82-84
Second - JC - That's what I am saying. Why wouldn't the runs be run in saltwater?? In theory, the 177 pass last August could have been 179-182 (??). |

Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
I would like to see them run with stock power as well. The March Powerboat has the Outerlimits 39 Quattro with 525's Hull weight of est 8800 pounds that had a radar speed of 96.9. Who wants to build a motor the runs for a hour and goes 200MPH

ME, ME! I would give you my left nut to run either of those boats. The run last August cost big $, not 30K. |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
Sign4boat,
Do you know when it is supposed to take place? Sat am? I would like to join you. Probably couldn't stay the night though. I would take my boat, but my engines are out. I'm sure some others from up here would like to as well... I'm not aware of anyway to get to where they are going to make the run other than by boat, are you? Dean |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
3-4 MPH in salt based on prop bite alone? 'Cause there sure as hell isn't any hull in (on?) the water at those speeds. You would think it would be a trade off at those speeds if it is the case...dregging skegs through denser water?
Just what they need, a surface more like concrete when the innevitable happens. |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
I don't know why and I am not being biased, but I have a bad gut feeling about this one. Go to my website and watch the kilo run at Fountain from August. I was in a boat not far from Reggie and Ben and that boat was holding on by drives only. I said to myself "holy ****". I talked to Reggie 15 minutes after the run I said "Looked good!". He said with a straight face "didn't feel so good" and walked away.
At 180+ the boats are just waiting to go over. We will see the first blow over in a V soon. |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
Us Sutphen dudes are tring to break a speed record too! That is to see who can drink the most beers, fast!!

Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
unfortunately Bill, I agree. and what good will that do? Another black eye for perf boats.
Do they realize they are slowly contributing to thier (our) own demise? The egos with bottomless pockets will contibute to increased costs for us regular folks. Just the bad publicity of one of the big players dying in a hyped up event, will drive up the perceived liability of insuring these things. Maybe this is why OL is being low key? It's best that way as they all approach the edge (end). |

Thank god they'd chage 2.9 million bucks for it, I know I'm protected from the temptation. |
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
The whole thing may now be off. I was speaking with Mr. Pfaff about some engines I am considering for my own boat and he said he had canceled plans to be at Lake Cumberland this weekend. They are running his engines in the boat that is going to make the attempt and according to him one of them is having problems. There won't be enough time to have it fixed and get it back to KY by the weekend.
I just mention this in case you guys are making plans to fly in from all over the country. You might want to confirm that the event is actually taking place before you go thru all the trouble. Of course, they might be putting out a lame duck rumor just to keep the competition off guard. Who knows. I'd just hate to see any fellow OSO's make that trip for nothing so you had better be sure. p.s. He did say the boat was running an easy 180 before they had the trouble WOW!!!! |

Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
I called LCM today to see if this run was true and it was canceled due to too much debris in the Lake so they are shooting for a couple weeks from now
|
Re: Outerlimits to try and Break the Speed Record !!!!
a twig could upset the applecart at those speeds.

Your kidding, right? I mean, I thought these bad azz OL's were built for big ocean, wave crushing use. And now a few sticks is stopping them? ;) :D Tell them to fire up that new lake cleaner, log eatin machine. Wise choice though, if it is the real reason. Not like they haven't been ready before and packed it up early. So does it take such ridiculous HP to make this boat run at those speeds, that if the motor starts they are thrilled? So far all that has been proven is that RC and now PP have issues building motors for this purpose. Besides, I call BS to this whole story. Randy, (LCM) knows damn well the conditions of the lake this time of yr. It's just like every other yr. Why would they even consider a run there with this knowledge. When was the offical word decided to cancel? |

We'll finally get an answer to the question we've been eagerly asking...... How fast can a vee bottom go while disintegrating? T2x |
