I really think the whole deal is BS... Bigtime!!! anyone who has even a limited knowledge knows those lakes are a minefield in the Spring. They are even a PITA during the summer when we would get a big rain. They have had horrible weather and those lakes take days and even weeks to clear up after a big rain.... :rolleyes:

If this was true, HA HA, OL no put up just allot of hype, same story as before. However since Mike never announced this I will just let it go as Hyped rumor. :rolleyes:

Actually, I tested a boat last Friday from Lake Cumberland Marine. We had to dodge a bit of debris getting out to the main lake but once we were out there it wasn't really that bad. We ran a 38 Fountain up the lake at 86 mph right in the area where they were suppose to make the attempt and saw very little debris. If the lake was in the same condition as last Friday then I don't think there would be any trouble in getting it cleaned up for a run.

Like I said above, the engine builder himself told me OL was having trouble with one his 2000 HP beasts and that's why they called the attempt off. Keeping 2000 HP engines together can't be easy.

And if you know Lake Cumberland then you know it would be a great place to make a kilo run this time of year. It's long, calm, very cool in February, and has very little traffic to keep out of the way this time of the year. It's waters are protected by tall cliffs so it would provide the perfectly calm and predictable waters needed to make such an attempt to break a world record.

Does'nt this go back to the feud between Paul Sr. and Reggie. Fountian ran the ads that basically said they "invented" the stepped hull and Paul Sr. got p'd and ran full page ads in PowerBoat Mag showing Hustler had steps way before Fountian. This was back around 1990.

those are two, and i am not convinced of either one yet...

i have heard that they did and that they didn't have problems with the RC's, so i don't know about that one.....

and this one, remember, this is all rumors to begin with, i haven't seen Mike out saying he was gonna run yet... so until he does, i am not going to jump on the engine broke down again band wagon....

and is mike putting these engines in or is bob? i wouldn't start knocking OL quite yet on their choice of engines... these guys aren't trying to beat reggies record, they are trying to destroy it, and that means they probably have to deal with some equipment that isn't gonna last very long.... a few dyno pulls, a few test runs and how much do they have left in them?

if i felt my boat wasn't right, the water wasn't right, heck, if the stars weren't aligned properly, there is no way i would go that fast in a boat i wasn't 110% sure about...

OL should simply stick with building nice fast boats for well-heeled customers.
That is their "niche" . . . . it's no BAD niche, but leave the RACING to Fountain.

No disrespect to OL . . . . at all. . . . No one disputes that an OL is fast . . .

ok not trying to start the pot. but why doint ol put the same motors in ther boat that reggie had, in his and out run him . you can allways put more hp and go fast. :evilb: but do it with the same motors. THEN we will see WHO is the fastest. reggie had 1550 hp level the playing field then it might mean somthing , till then it is jest CHECK BOOK RACING . so what. :drink:

How about a 39' OL w/525 efi's against a 42' Lightning w/525 efi's? Would that be fair or should in be a 38' Lighning for a level playing field?

I say who cares who goes 180 mph+ because %99.999 will never own a boat that does that...How many people are going to buy a boat from a company solely based on a speed record anyway?

I guess you cold measure the wetted surface on both and I bet there the same .I know my Hustler is the same wetted surface when sitting side by side.

Its still a broken record ,they will not do a equal power to weight test!

I don't think anyone is trying to blame anyone, but, The fountain that ran 177 I believe had 1550 sterlings which is what OL ran last yr at 160 something.

For the same reason Nor-tech doesn't race, to much demand and not enough time. When you have a 2 year wait on boats you don't have time to mess with race boats. Both Nor-Tech and OL have had race boats in the past and they did very well when they raced. Fountain builds more boats in a month than Ol and NT do all year put together.

I am sure if somebody went to them and said build me a race boat and I will never ask for any help from you they would be happy to, but that isn't how it works. If I was going to get into boat racing it would be who is going to help the most and cost me the least.

are they ever? I saw a "525" from the liquid metal boat in St Petersburg 03' get pulled with a rod sticking out the side of an oil pan. HMMMMMMMM how often does that happen? The boat had dominated super cat light all year. They dropped another "525" in the boat right from the Mercury trailer and came in dead last the next day...... :rolleyes: But I'm sure that had nothing to do with it......... :D :p
