Duramax Suburban Quotes

What do yall think?

Jim,

Thanks for the email about the Suburban conversions. We can build you a 2001 or 2002 duramax Suburban with around 75k miles, with allison transmission, plus body lift and new exhaust, 9000lb hitch, ready to go for 45- to 50,000.00
We are located in Denver, and you would need a 5000.00 non refundable deposit. It would take roughly 2-4weeks to find a donor vehicle and a suburban that meets my standards, and the conversion will take 4 to 6 weeks, weather and parts providing.
If you would like to set something up or talk more about it, let me know.
We would recomend, however, 2 additional items which adds a little bit to the price quoted. Specific 285/75/16 Michelin LTX M/S tires and custom 4" exhaust with 5" tip. Also, we can of course install video systems etc. But a high deposit would be required for more customization.
But either way , we want your business!!!

Please call me asap at 303-888-XXXX

I have a white 2001 that will be ready in 2-3 weeks. Prepurchase price 46,995.00
When it is complete it will go on ebay with a min bid, and I am sure it will top 50k on this one.

Thanks again for the interest and look forward to working with you.

That's one way to do it. You could always do it yourself, probably for much less, depending on what you're time is worth. :D

I don't know, but 2001 duramax conv Burb w/75,000 miles for $47K Sounds too high to me .... and I'm assuming the donor vehicle would be a 3/4 ton 2500 ... right??

My 2001 2500 Burb w/496, every friggen option (DVD video/wireless headphones), 40,000 miles, I bought for $24K last year! Safely assume (again :D ) it would be less this year, or now. So the conversion they're saying is about $25K?! Not taking into account the value the 496 engine/tranny package could get on re-sale.

Just IMO .... hmmm #'s make sense to you masher??

No way!! It is high! My guy is working on getting me the color I want on the Excursion and it is LOADED for 44,700. I will do that before I pay MORE for a very used Chevy!

But then you have to drive not only a Ford, but a diesel without an Allison behind it. :(

It tows 35' 1985 Cig Mistress, triple axle aluminum, effortlessly. Just dragged the boat home from MI (850mi) up and down the BlueRidge mountains of PA without a hint of strain. Rear sits perfectly with trailer hooked. No air bags (tow package preventing shift to overdrive), the truck is sweet. Gas mileage is 11mpg city, highway, wherever whenever doesn't matter. Towing mileage drops to like 7/8mpg  Beside that no complaints :) ... Loves the snow too!

DAM! That is not an easy tow either. The 7 MPG sure beats the 1.5 you get with the Cig. :D :D
Ford seems to have their chit together on the new tranny. I am looking in the 35 to 38 foot boat too so I figured I would go with the Ford if I have too. My 01 Denali might not have another year of towing left in her :(
Do you have the load leveling suspension? mine works great. I have 125K on mine... runs great but I figure her time is limited from this point forward yarning around 9K.

I'm a Chevy guy , but that's a ton of money for a USED Burban. Spend the money(or less) for a NEW Excursion with a NEW warrantee at your LOCAL dealer. OR for even less money buy a 1 or 2 year old Ex , many that still have the balance of the factory warrantee available. These should also have an available extended warrantee too

Re: Duramax Suburban Quotes

I dont mean to bag on GM here(well maybe just a little) but the new "Allison" behind the duramax isn't any diffrent than the trans Ford is now using called the torqueshift its a 5 speed auto. I just bought a new F-550 work truck with the 6.0L diesel and the toqueshift and so far no problems with anything. 24,000 Miles in the first 6 months mostly fully loaded. GVW is 19,000. The allison in the chevys was designed for that truck its not an off the shelf bulletproof allison transmission, it is smaller than the 545 wich was previously the smallest thing they built. It is mostly just a brand image thing with the allison name. Don't get me wrong though Allison doesn't make any product that is substandard but its not exceptional eiher.

Stuff? Transmission, door lock actuators, power window motors, air pump (truck has no vacuum), front hubs, alternator, a/c manifold in dash(air wouldn't switch from defroster to vents), steering wheel(leather wore out at 50,00 miles), rear main seal(under warranty(but it trashed my driveway), injectors, fuel pump, instrument cluster glass(it fogged up), head lights(they fogged up and looked like crap), trans cooler(it some how got a pinsized hole in it). That may be about it, its a 2000 with 64,000 miles on it. I wont buy another one for 50,000 (XLT w/ Powerstroke). I still love the way it looks though, just had alot porblems with it, I'm also meticulous, if it looks used or broken I'll fix it. I hate stuff that doesn't work properly.
I'll wait until Chevy puts out a diesel suburban..........

If you have to have a duramax, seems like it would be cheaper to get a 2500 crew cab add a cap! Or, you may be able to find someone to even add a seat to the bed! :p

Re: Duramax Suburban Quotes

Hillbilly-
I have both a Ford and a Chevy (TorQShift and Allison).
The Allison behaves much better than the TS. It's shifting, both up and down is much smoother. The TS is also slow to go into gear when you shift from F-R or R-F. Trivial I know, but it's certainly noticable..
The trans temp on the TS will actually rise, not by much but it will, where as I have never seen the temp on the Allison move.

I did pull a 42 OL through the mountains of PA with a new F350 @ WOT and didn't have a problem.... Though I was told that that truck now needs or has gotten a new trans...

You're joking right?

Everything, down to the parking detent in the Ford, is half the size of what's in the Allison. They're not even close to the same. Look at the track record on the TS versus the Allison. Yeah, you have 24K on yours... come talk to us when you hit 60K and have had it rebuilt a couple times. I'll bag on GM and compare the TS to the old 700R4 where you wanted to be near a tranny shop right around 40K miles. :D

You're comparing lemons to Allisons here. :D

Save the 20k and spend some $1500 on the 496: Chip, intake and exhaust. You will have the power you need.

Twice the interior room of Burb??? I find that very hard to believe. I had full size Dodge B2500 Conversion van and it did not have twice the interior room, maybe you mean head room :D Matter fact the Burb seats more ... my wife plus 7 little monsters (err uh ,,cherubs  ) and has room behind the third row bench for a ton of groceries LOL. Much more room than the conversion van had behind the third row. The conv van had 4 Capt. chairs and 3rd row, so it could only seat 7 total. My Burb has more room when compared to Dodge's full size 2500.

I had a boss a few years back with a lifted Dodge van, 440, 4x4, 35" tires, dana 60's front and rear. He swore by it, used to bag on my Suburban and my Excursion. Most poeple who have them love them......... I know he still has that thing, he'll probably leave to his kids in his will.

just my 2 cents, I have a 2005 King Ranch duallay crew cab that I haul peoples boats with up to and including 46 skaters that are 19000lbs with the trailer. I have 90,000 miles in the last 6 months with it and have had only one problem with it, and ford changed out 2 injectors and it is fine. Just buy the excursion and be done with it. There is nothing like a factory built truck. I like chevy's, I am just saying that if you want the inside room of a suburban with a good engine then just go with the excursion. and it will be alot cheaper and faster

I agree that the new Ford torqueshift is a much improved tranny, but it doesn't have the reliability proven record that the Allison tranny has. Did you know that the M-1 Abrams tank (the undisputed best tank ever built) has an Allison tranny? :D

Re: Duramax Suburban Quotes

No matter how you look at it the premium for the Durmax /Allison on a Chevy it just doesn't work. There is no reasonable payback period. When diesel fuel was 80% the cost of regular, maybe. But with the cost being higher, or at best equal, the pay back just isn't there. The big ass V-8 gas will perform just as well for less overall dollars.

Hmm, 50k seems real steep for 75k miles, I like how hes going to sell the white 2001 for welll over 50k if you dont "act now",, Wont $50k pick up just about any 2001 Hummer "H1" on ebays buy it now? Im not sure of the towing and fuel ratings but you would think an H1 could fit the bill.

I have a '01 K2500 8.1L with 94,000 miles that I am going to sell if anyone needs a donor vehicle. I am going to wait on the '07 Duramax Suburbans, and am driving my Avalanche in the interim. I figured I should stop driving it because it will be easier to sell with 94k than with 100+k. The 8.1 tows my 36' Apache fine, it just doesn't get the greatest mileage doing it :D

I will probably list it at $18,500.

Bub, the reason I picked up a new Excursion is that they told me at the time that the diesel Suburban wont be out until 08 IF at all...
I have owned 3 Suburbans sized vehicles and have to say that the extra room in the Ex made a huge difference alone!!!! I owned both the Denali XL and the Ex at the same time and the Ex made the Denali feel tiny.... no more back pain in the Ex and drove it 30 hours over 2 days a few weeks ago and NO back pain or cramps etc.... while the Denali murdered me in two hours...

Just letting you know because you are a larger sized human :D
Plus TWICE the gas mileage in the Ex.... :D
