A curiosity question for all you tech junkies:
I have a flash disk MP3 player (512 MB fits in your closed hand) and was wondering if you can "line in" directly to an intercom system with these portable MP3 players? They are so convenient and unskippable so I would think this would be perfect for a boat.
I have a wireless FM modulator that will work through FM frequencies but you lose quality. Seems like quality would be high if you could line directly into an intercom system.
Food for thought...maybe it's already being done but if not it would be sweet.

If your intercom has an extra mic jack you can definatly go line in. I can not remember with the intercom that we had on our boat however if when one guy was talking the other could not. I think we could both talk at the same time however. As for the FM modulation not being high quality it should probably be good enough. After all you are listening to MP3's

I was curious because it sounds like a good idea. I have had built in FM modulator disc changers before and the quality difference was not much. With the wireless it is across the board in a moving vehicle.
I have been extremely satisfied with MP3's as long as they are at least 128 Kb/s. I have a lot of mp3's that are 192 kb/s and the clarity on those sound better than store bought Cd's IMO.
Thanks for the input.
I will do some snooping this year when I see boats with intercoms.
