Re: who works on their own boat?
I do ever' damn thing on my boat and mostly wish I had one that didn't require as much work. I couldn't own it if If I had to pay someone...
I actually enjoy working on them, just wish the season was longer. Having a boat laid up for two weeks (In the Great White North) is a premium.

[QUOTE] Can't afford to pay some one else to do it, so I do it all myself.

Three motor swaps
1 complete engine rebuild
outdrive work
Cut some holes in the transom for new exhaust (that was scary)
installed many many different stereos
minor gelcoat work (would NOT attempt again)
vinyl repair( I'll also leave that to the experts from now)
I hear ya, Waterfoul. I do most everything myself also and most of the time enjoy doing it....... as long as it does not eat into the actual boating time.

Re: who works on their own boat?
I think I have a new Life Goal:
Become rich enough to NOT have to work on my own boats.
Yeah, like that's ever gonna happen...

Re: who works on their own boat?
Used to do it ALL myself and spent many a miserable hour trying to save a buck on the older boats. Now with the new boat's I would still do as much as I can before the level of knowledge on the new EFI's drops off technical-wise, then I would call in the maintenance paratrooper to jump in and fix it. But I'd give it a hell of a try as I do with everything I own house; cars; etc. I've even got the shop manual for the motors, so I'd give it a good peak before throwing in the towel. But so far I haven't had any problems with the Sunsations I've owned...

It's also ironic how many people consider
you a "friend" ( because of your abilities)
Extension boxes do make nice steps though
