This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Here's a little background. I bought this 33' Powerplay in May of 2004. The first owner, then the 2nd owner (Trader1) kept the boat in very good condition. I have been waiting to own this exact boat for 3 years now. The boat was/still is in very good condition and I have been spending alot of money trying to make it alot nicer by replacing alot of the little things, but they do add up $$$$
I have it in a very well known Southern California performance boat co. getting the HP500's completely rebuilt. I bought a new steering wheel, 2 flame arrestors, 2 Fire extinquishers & mounts, 2 sea strainers, 4 fuel fill cells, 4 pop-up fender cleats (like on the Outerlimits), a new rubrail, etc...... I go to the shop a few days ago to see the boat and the progress. It wasn't there. ???? The owner said it's at his house....WTF?? I go to his house, the boat is parked in front of his house with a tree literally hanging over the boat. I don't know how long it was sitting there...he told me 1 night (doubt it) The deck has stains in it from the tree dropping "tree stuff" and it wasn't coming out. I tried wiping it, then using a little wax I had in my truck--it still didn't come off. Then the last thing is that the only thing done is the rubrail, the motors aren't done and everything else waiting to be put on. The boat has been there for 2.5 months now with little progress. I also pay $295.00 a month for indoor storage that my boat could have been there staying clean!! I will add that I bought 90% of the parts through Fred @ Trick Marine...NO complaints there. :drink: |

I probably would have gotten myself arrested If I was in your position
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
That boat is sweet, I'd be furious. What the heck is that dude thinking? Did he ever give you a time frame for the work?
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
That sucks!!!
I hate to be the one to tell ya, but those stains look more like they are from birds than the tree!!  Might take some work, but they should clean up. |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Where's the bat - and make sure you "out" this POS once the work is done and the boat is back in your possession. Though with this record, do you want this idiot doing more work on your pride and joy?
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
that sucks...............no respect for your equipment. time to pull the plug.unfortunatly the miami schuffle has arrved in california...........p.s.when were you promised the boat.how much deposit you leave?my condolances. m.m.

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
DAMN!!!!! I'd be pissed off!! Semper, I know this sounds a little harsh but get soft scrub with bleach....wet the surface and put some on your finger and LIGHTLY ......and I mean LIGHTLY smear it around the stain. Worked for me with some lime green bird crap that soap and water didn't touch!! Also if the soft scrub makes you nervous I've used acetone to remove stains from the waterline in small areas.....just need to wash with soap and water afterwards then re wax area. Hope this helps :D

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Tow your boat home...before it is to late, the guy is not so reputable after all...here is your warning!

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Gerard, is that shop near the beach in DP? Sorry about your situation, I know you have wanted a PP for years. Nice boat!

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Try WEsley's Bleach White on those stains--there are pigeons in the dry storage where my boat is and I've gotten to be a pro at cleaning up bird chit

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
To answer a few questions......
I am going to have a profesional detailer try to fix this problem at the shop owner's expense. The timeframe was not promissed, but it was supposed to be done 1 month ago. I am going to get the boat after the motors are in and let someone els put everyhting else on the boat. The shop that is working on my boat is in Riverside. Can you friggin believe that I have a boat sitting in my storage space right now from his shop???? I did this so he would have some room for my boat. I am paying $295.00 a month storage for someone else's boat to be clean and for mine to get jacked!!! Monday I will get that boat out of storage and bring it back to his shop and leave it there. |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Same 'Ol story...........marine service business' aren't worth anything and on we go!
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Forgot to mention one other thing that I am so tired of dealing with A-HOLES in the marine industry that I probably will be selling the boat. This is way too much BS for me to deal with.
I am really tempted to sell the boat and my '04 GMC and go buy a Mercedes E55 AMG. :D and be savings alot of money without the BS. For the very few people in the marine industry that are a pleasure to deal with (Trick Marine, Terry Sobo to name a few) I apologise because this is not directed to you! |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Yea I can believe it!!! Good get it out of there soon as you can...very smart plan...it could be alot worst..believe me! This day and age you have to really watch your boat where ever it is..and yank it as soon as you get scared.
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Holy Chit!!!.....was your boat locked up in front of his house???......lucky the thing didnt get stolen or some kids didnt key the thing or mess it up just because they happened to be walking by..........get it outta there
the stains can be buffed out.......had that all over the deck ion mine last year......Mequires 3 step brought it back to new...........doug |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
This just isn't right--How pissed would you be? Extremely!!!!
What is wrong with the Marine industry. Since joining this board I have heard some of the craziest stories. How do these people stay in business??? It's great we now have the ability to let the word out on bad businesses. Unfortunately it would probably be better to list the good business since there would be a shorter list. :( At least we have one of our own selling parts now. Fred should be model for others in the marine industry to follow. Would you like a fry with that water pump? :D Dan |

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Semper , soory for your bad luck, but that is the reason I do all my own work. Dont be afraid to try and bolt on the rub rail and cleats your self, steering wheel simple. Plus you get a little more knowledge of your boat.

THAT REALLY SUCKS........
Take lots of digital pictures of what is going on. SO when you have a deatiler handle it you can just pass of the bill to the owner of the shop. You might want to get legal advise as well for the motor part. Looks like you have to play a little hard ball with this guy and light a fire under his butt. |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
every once in a while you hear about a boat owner who retaliates against a scumbag service guy.pretty funny stories.one that comes to mind is the service guy who coppied the wrong paint job and was asked to change it.he laughed.then he went to the hoapital i believe they repainted the boat on a sunday..then there was the lawyer who pissed off somebody and was being persued.lent his car to a friend.friend pulls intl f.a. lot get ball batted.later they find out they nailed the wrong guy.they now go back and finnish the job.2 4 1..........

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
there's several guys here in jersey that treat their customers the same way. seems like many of these marine guys all have the same mentality. your always at their mercy. once they have your boat and your motors scattered all over the shop, they pretty much have you by the short hairs. If I treated my customers the way some of these marine guys do, I would be cleaning windshields by now. working for food.
bottom line for anyone getting major boat work done. get everything in writing... price, completetion time, sign off on all extras. and if they're not done by the agreed date, they face liquidated damages. most marine guys wont agree to that, because then they would actually have to work hard instead of B***S***ing all F**en day. I share your frustration....good luck |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
bruce you are right on about the taking it apart thing.thats called job security.i would think the jersey boys would have it under control with the ball bats and pistols.cya m.m.

I actually don't have alot of choices here. I'm between a rock and hard place on this one. It's tough because he is rebuilding both of my motors.(HP500's) If I have a problem with the motors I want to be on good terms with him for warranty problems if they arrise. I need to go to his shop on Monday and lay down the terms/ guidelines of our business relationship fom now on......my boat stays at his shop, he will pay a detailer to fix the deck and he will give me a timeframe to have the boat completed. |

Are u sure your in Cali. and not Miami.

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
When Gerard called me and told me what was going on I could not believe it. The guy who is doing the work actually has a reputable name ( used to at least). This is the reason i used to trailer my boat 3 hours to Teague to get any work done. After dealing with shops that would return the boat with grease on the interior ect... I decided it was not worth it to save some driving time.
My new boat will only go to havasu to be worked on because it has O/B power and Teague does not work on them. I know the shop in Havasu from previous dealings, and know they will take care of the boat. It seems like there are not many people in the marine industry you can trust with your boat. :( |

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
Gerard,
This is NO way to begin a long and healthy relationship with your engine builder/boat mechanic. Get it out. There is NO excuse for this. Is the boat still in running condition? Are you sure he has not used it? That would be one slight more step from having it at his house, and I would not put it past him. If its not, where are all your parts? His house? His shop? eBay? WhoTF knows? Start a relationship with a new builder. Go see Teague or someone; explain the situation, and see what you can come up with. RUN away from this guy. |

The guy is rebuilding my motors now...they are out of the boat, so I know he isn't using it. As soon as it is done- I won't have him touch my boat again unless it needs motor warranty work. |

Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
I gues I am getting some closure here......I just got off the phone with the shop owner. I called to lay down some new groundrules between me, him and my boat. He said that he was truely sorry and will do what it takes to make it right. He said he aready had the boat cleaned and the stains removed from the boat.
He acknowledged that my boat will stay indoors, in his shop, covered, etc... from here on out. He also said the boat will be completely detailed to my satisfaction when I go to pick it up. :D This is really the best resolution I can expect---if he follows through with his promises. |
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
the MAIN thing ....why at his house ????? whats up with that ??? are you sure you want these guys inside those 500's ?????
|
Re: This just isn't right--How pissed would you be?
