Fountain 42 Lightning

I recently took delivery of my new 42 Lightning equipped with 1100/1350 HP Sterlings with dry sump #6 outdrives.
The boat is a performer, ran 130 MPH with 4 pounds of boost on pump gas at the factory. Reggie ran the boat himself with his forged Herring props on the boat that he set the kilo record with.

The boat was gelled yellow and I will send it to the paint shop after Labor Day weekend. The new cabin door and higher freeboard on the 2005 model are really nice. This is my third 42 Lightning and it is really sweet.

Also, Fountain has really stepped up their rigging efforts. The boat has both mechnical and electric fuel pumps, a single (large) sea strainer for both engines with smaller Stainless Marine strainers for the Intercoolers.

I am in the process of ordering some 16.8 diameter 35" pitch Herring cast props for the boat. With race fuel and 7.5 pounds of boost I should be able to see the high 130's to low 140's with this boat.

Pretty impressive speeds for a stock 42 Lightning with a cabin with big power.

I will posts some pictures of the boat and engines after the weekend.

Happy Easter Sunday

I do the majority of my boating at Lake Texoma, but I will probably go to Lake Lewisville at least a couple of times this summer.

10X

You are right, my painter will be hard pressed to out do himself from the purple boat. He claims he is up to the challenge, he recently finished a 43 V Nor-Tech for a friend of mine that turned out beatiful.

Hello Tom;

I would like to make some TOPPS runs this summer.

And finally GLH,
I remember the Marathon run, that was the run where Jackie went into labor and Stu became a father that weekend. I remember sitting at the cafe with Stu and he had that blank look on his face, finally everyone said Stu "Get OuttaHere".

That was a fun run and one to remember.

Re: Fountain 42 Lightning

I took the boat out this past weekend, I have not received my Herring props so I put a set of Mercury 4 blades 16.75 diameter 34 pitch props on the boat. The weather was perfect with the exception the water was very flat with no wind. I had a full crew of five people on board with a full load of fuel. I ran the boat up to 120 MPH at 5800 RPM with some throttle left. I was running approximately 4 pounds of boost on 93 octane gas.

The boat is extremely quick to get on plane with the ventalators on the props. The boat has amazing quickness from 100 MPH to 120 MPH. Also, with the extra freeboard Fountain has added for the 2005 model, the boat handles a bit different from my 2003 model. It seems to handle lighter in the bow.

I will post some running shots as soon as a friend of mine e-mails them to me.

The rear decals didnt stand up to 130mph. Keep in mind, 93 octane 4lbs boost. I am a witness.

whats the deal with the hoses on the outdrives? is that why its roosting so high? what purpose do they serve performance wise?

They ventilate the props when comming out of the hole. The rooster tail is really high because the boat was just taking off. It lays down after you get moving.
