How about this one for a project boat? 1989 Baja 250 Sport,Fresh never run 509 Mark IV 550HP engine, Laytham Hyd. Steering, K Planes, Gaffrig Guages, New Bravo Drive, Raised X, Custom Fiberglass Fairing, Custom Fiberglass Hatch w/ scoop, 10K Paint, etc...etc...

I'll have to post pic's later. It won't let me upload. Dave

Like others mentioned, I don't see the point in going from a 24 Baja to a 25 Checkmate if that is not where you ultimately want to be anyway. You mentioned the new engine for 22K, that would lead me to believe that he is asking at least that much for the Checkmate. I don't know what the Check is worth but it is a 15 Yr. old boat. I've seen 28 Panteras for 30-40K.

The Checkmate can be had for $10,000 with nice trailer. And since he is a freind of mine I would not have to pay him until my boat sold!

Russ,

Dude, don't sweat the small stuff bro. Keep the Baja and enjoy it. Wait until the time is right to rock the new Pantera instead of blowing more money to get a boat that you really don't want the way you want it. The Baja sounds like a nice ride. My advice is to just be patient. You never know what will come along. I'm sure if you look hard you'll find your project boat for the right price and it sounds like you'll be able to get some good cash for the Baja.

Russ,
I prefer the Checkmate over the Baja but let's be sensible (well as much as you can be with boats). The Baja is finished. You know what you have. The Checky is an unknown. Enjoy the Baja and wait for the elusive Pantera or whatever it may be at the time.
In a couple years, your tastes will change anyway.
I have been through the boat resurection scene more times than I care to remember. I tell the wife that the best times we have had boating were way back with the 21' Switzer on a local inland lake. Two boats and ten years later, I'm in a 27' Activator and for much more money.
Oh yeah, I'm still on that local inland lake although I have been able to frequent other bodies of water and in much more challenging conditions.
Save your time and money.
Signed,
Another Russ
