I want to do a simple market suvey in this forum. We are the caribbean distributor for Marine diesel USA. Our product is a V8 marine diesel engine, which is a direct replacement to small and big block gasoline engines with horsepower ranging from 175-400 HP operating at 3800-4000 rpm.

What concerns or comments can you share with us in reference to the HP market and Diesels?

I love the website, it's quite informative, especially for someone that knows very little about engines like myself. My question is, once you get to the 400hp level there might be a net loss of a few mph on top end speed when comparing to a 415 hp gas engine. Are there any alternatives to go to a higher hp diesel configuration? Will you be offering a larger engine? Also, is there any information on hours before overhuling these engines?

Is overall creuise speed higher? In other words, if my top end speed might be reduced a bit on the 400hp engine when compared to a 415 gas engine, can I still creuise at nearly full RPMs like in most diesels, or is the fact that it is supercharged require that I cruise at, say, 2,600 rpm?

I've looked at the website in the past even emailed them about approx. speeds in my Sonic with the tigre shark but no replys. I think its a great idea but with the torqe of the deisel the bravo drives that most of run would be junk....now with a Konrad drive......but now your talkin serious money!!!

Thanks for the quick reply. On the 400 model, Torque specs are 750lbs@1700 rpm, the 300/300 are 515lbs@1700 rpm.Typically what happens with a conversion is that we increase the pitch of the prop in order to compesat for the torque. for instance The Company repowerd a 22 scarab that was doing 50 mph with a 454. They installed a md300 hp and pitched the prop up to 28" the boat picked up an extra 12 mph running at 3400 rpm.

To answer you second question. The 300 is getting about 5000-6500 hrs before rebuilding. on the 400 we anticipate about 600-1000.

Pricing ranges from 19898.00 for the 300 and about 26,500.
CMI is aparently making headers for the engines as well.

Cruising is 3200 rpm. Im working now on a pair of 400s to put im my scarab 34. Ill be running dbd stern drives. To give you some sort of idea, there is a 30f scarb sport in sweeden that is runnign 81mph with a pair of md 300s with the dbd drive. Here is a pic

Typically 300 hp model would require a bravo x drive and the 400 the XR

I've spoken to the guys at marinediesel usa and brought it up here before.
I think its a great idea.
Even if you lose a few mph on top end, you'll gain big time on cruising speeds. Plus your range would kick @ss.
I think pricing on the 300 is around 20k and 400 @ 30K. I can't remember if that was w/ drives or not.
Also, the konrad is the way to go w/ these. Still waiting for the konrad bravo replacement.

I thought a pair of 300s or a single 400 would be nice in a 28 pantera.

Those prices, that is without a drive or exhaust. Can you tell us what it does include?
