Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Looking at 2 completely different boats. 2005 29 Kryptonite merc 500efi, 1 year warranty on engine and drive, bravo xz, k-planes indicators, gaffrig etc...on a trailer vs a 95 32 hustler with 300hours twin 454 mags 1 owner super super clean...same $$$ which do you buy ?

If you want to boat all summer with no headaches, buy the kryptonite
Hustler is a great boat, but the power is definately near the end of its life span even though 300hrs is not alot in 10 years, 10 year old stuff breaks more than new stuff

berns29scarab 04-01-2005 10:53 AM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

how bout opinions in resale...know name like hustler vs custom boat like kryptonite...if your involved in the offshore scene you'd know about them but otherwise ?

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

You have a point, but the money you may spend repowering the hustler eventually may make it a mute point.
That Kryptonite is beautiful

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

I think I'd go with the Hustler mainly for size and twins (even though you might have to spend $$$ on a repower soon). Resale will be better with/because of the Hustler name, but you're comparing a 1995 to an '05, so resale on the '05 Kryp will obviously have an advantage with age.

IMO you'll be much happier with perf of Hustler's for the long(??) run ... you just got out of a 29'er and you're going to buy another 29'er?? I'd think you'd AT LEAST want to go 32' or BIGGER  :) Good luck shopping.

very good point's..i agree. too many choices

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

That 29 looks sweet! depending on your size needs, I would lean towards the 29.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

i do most of my boating in the barnegat bay which can very often kick up to consistent legitament 2 ftr's..i run the atlantic from time to time which is usually always 3-5's...i've watched the kryptonites run 6 plus without a problem...i like the fact of new with warranty, but also like that xtra 5 foot...grrrrrrrrrr

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

New is nice but I like twins and the extra length. I've had a 29 (with platform length), 40 (w/o platform length), and 32 (w/o platform length) and think a "true" 32-35 is the optimum.

But we haven't seen pics of the '32 Hustler :( :) I'll reserve judgement until I see the '32

Try this link Bern :)

Very nice I was looking at that boat couple months ago ... it's been on Ebay for a while ... must be a motivated seller ;) ;) Offer him in the low 50's and see where it goes.

There's no comparison. The huslter is all you.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Tough choice... hmmmmmmmmmm...

I like the 32, but not the paint or the pink.
That Krypo is smokin...
But it won't only be the 3ft giving the hustler a better ride, its gotta be a hell of a lot heavier.
And not that it should influence the decision, but the 32 will be more thirsty and more $ in maintenance.

Otherwise, I'm clueless, never been in either one.

BTW, isnt the krypto a sit down boat?
That should make a big diff if it is.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

..twins always are enticing..but I learned (the hard way)..one motor, only one headache...and the 500 is nearly bulltetproof..

..the Krypto hull is bulletproof as well...ask Randy.

Good Luck!

:D

*btw..doesn't Randy still have his two Krypto's??...the black one is nearly new...

No close up of the transom ??? Thats a critical shot
NICE boat ..colors = gay :D

Ron P 04-01-2005 01:43 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

A little vinyl tape from Stickerboy could take care of the colors.

I think Randy has two of those 28 Kyrptos for sale.

I guess it all depends if you want to go for a quick ride or spend the day out on the boat.

All they Kryps I've seen are sit downs which would kill the deal for me.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Bern.... BIG question

do you want to race? if so, stick with the Kryp. The hustler is a great boat if you just want to pleasure boat. if you race the Hustler, you gotta worry bout securing everything in the cabin and like the other guys said.....twice the expense and headaches

DPT MOTORSPORTS 04-01-2005 02:06 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Go with the Kryptonite Bern. The reliability factor of the 500 EFI is far better then the 454s with tons of hours on them. Besides that Krypto would spank the 32 Hustler any day of the week on Barnaget Bay where you do 90% of your boating unless you are doing Poker Runs. I would take the Krypto in the rough as well. Its a far newer boat anyway which will leave you with less headaches down the road.

BRUCE SEROFF 04-01-2005 02:14 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

If I was in the market, and had to choose, I'de grab the Hustler.

like Ron said, what do you want to do with it?

In that case why did you bother to sell the Scarab?

Chris288 04-01-2005 02:20 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Kryptonite,,, two words ,,, Fuel, TWINS,, @ about 3.00 a gallon on the water this summer I wouldn't even think of buying twins.. well I was thinking but 45 gph compared to 90 gph changed my mind real quick.

And with a bunch of numbskulls predicting oil could reach 100.00 per barrel I would think long and hard..

Stormrider 04-01-2005 02:55 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

You can't compare the scarab to that Kryponite.

pullmytrigger 04-01-2005 03:00 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

If you basically just rip around/day trip/Poker Run go with the Krypt.........If you sleep overnight and cruise (like I do) go with the Hustler......the seperate head rules for that................doug
both are nice

NJgr8ful 04-01-2005 03:03 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

That Hustler's Ebay ad also claims 80mph from stock 454 mags   Possible or IM ...???

pullmytrigger 04-01-2005 03:08 PM

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

does that Krypt even have a cabin???......Ive never seen one.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

They're both nice boats, but don't seem quite right.
Hustler has great amenities, but silly-ass color and old motors.
Kryptonite is nice, but same size as your old boat, plus sit-down only (?), and not much cabin (if any).
Sounds like you're gonna be in the same boat for some time, so I'd be patient and keep looking.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Being friends with Bern I can say that initially he wanted a cat until the insurance costs freight trained that idea. He has spoken with me a few times on different boats and if I did not have answers for him I passed him to someone that would. If it was not for the insurance costs he would have been in a cat by now if he could find one that fit his budget.

Re: Fellow OSOer's opinions !!

Bern- Go Krypto man... Not even Superman can catch you in that boat... :D

I'd take that Krypto over the old Hustler any day, any day.
Unless of course you hang out with Motley Crue or Bob Hannah... then go with as much pink as you can find..

The Krypto is more money, right?

I'm not sayin' it is, but I'd expect the old boat to be a bucket of problems..unless of course you re rig/re do the boat... but your weather is coming so time for that doesn't exist...

No flippin' way with that Hustler run 80 on 365s...

The Krypto has too many things in it's favor here buddy...

My thoughts exactly. Id keep looking, both are nice boats but I think there are better boats and better deals out there than what you have found. Be patiant. You have another 6 weeks until nice boating weather

This is what I was just thinking...

but if DPT is correct, and you were thinking of a cat, then the Krypto is more like a cat in the way you'll use it.
Lightweight, fast, efficient, little/no cabin.
Not as fast as the cat, but lower insurance.
