Porter Cable 7424 for waxing/polishing?
Anyone use the Porter Cable 7424 for applying wax/polishing their boat?
Been thinking about purchasing one on Amazon($119) because I have heard some good reviews from people who have used it. Most were car owners. Would be nice to cut down the waxing time in half. Has anyone used it for their gel coat and what pads did you use? |

A friend of mine uses it on his boat and loves it.He got it from Griots garage online.Make sure the one you get is a random orbital.

Hey, S367, I had '89 #481 as the first owner. Fun ride, once you reinforced the suspension arm connection points on the subframe..
Anyhow, I still like a speed buffer. They're heavy but they really let you cover ground in a hurry. A variable speed one is a big plus, and the cheap ones have crappy speed triggers. Forget the purchased buffing pad cleaning tools. Go to diners and ask them to collect all their bent or damaged forks for you. A cheap fork is a great buffing pad cleaning tool. |

Absolutely love it for detailing the boat. Small pads are easier to get down into small contours, between rails, etc.. I just use a terricloth bonnett with thick foam pad. Your hands will get numb if you run this thing for more than a few minutes.

Oh, BTW, I still have it with only 9100 miles. :) Anyhow, thanks to all. Think I am going to pick one up. Should pay for itself in no time. Thought about the one on Amazon for $119, but I'll pay an extra $10 and get one from the auto detailer shops like Griots instead with the velcro pads. :) |

I have the Griots as well. I bought a combo with the 3" as well with the long cord. I've had it for 3 years and done 10-12 cars and a couple boats. Works great.
