Shor,
So what your saying is that I will DRAG my 35' boat on the bottom @ the entrance to the Glen, no matter where I come thru the channel?
Only 2 more days!
Dean[/QUOTE]

Not sure what you draft on your 35' and assume you're just talking about dragging the skeg. I don't think you'd ever get shallow enough to touch the fiberglass. I'd think if you trim your engines up you may just drag the skeg a bit in one area. I have outboards on my 29', so I have no problem, but my other boat that I've brought back there in the past is a 22' I/O and never had any problems dragging anything either.

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

My boat drafts 31' trimmed down. I didn't trim up and I never dragged. I'm sure if you trim up a little you won't drag.

Hell, my 27pc drafts 38 to 40 inches with the drives trimmed up and I didn't drag, just make sure as your approaching the island going into the run that you stay between the pvc markers (and going in at night their almost impossible to see if you don't know what your looking for) but they are there.
As far as drinking in the glen itself,,,,highly illegal so take solo cups and low profile and no one will bother you, their just trying to find a way to keep some sort of control over the rowdy drunks.

DO NOT walk around with any booze what so ever. they will look in your cup. If you must drink there, stay in your boat and be very discreet. keep an eye out for po po. You will get arrested for possesion if caught. If your loud and obnoxious music blaring and drinking, your done. If you are quiet, eating lunch on your boat with your wife and being discreet you'll be fine....

But yes they can and will arrest you if you are walking around with any booze.

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

I'll be there Monday morning, hoping to launch around 8:30am. Someone please try to save me a spot (like that's possible). I'll be in a 28" Active Thunder white/purple, "PsychoActive". I'll post a pic up later.

Regarding alcohol, I work part time with the Marion County S.O. The Glen is a 3 county jurisdiction, I'm 99% positive we won't be there (we only go by request). What I've been told by our Marine officers is that if you have a cabin, head, bed, all the **** that constitues a second home: you can drink & have alcohol. This is a "home" to you and unless there is a crime being committed, they cannot search your "home" without a warrant.

Largely, as mentioned above, if you keep it in solo cups & don't act like an ass, you won't get messed with. Keep it on your boat, keep the liquor in the cabin, you should be fine. There will be plenty of a-holes wading around with beer bottles & acting stupid to gain the cops attention.

Of course, your milage may vary.....

Gator Aid Sports bottles with a few shots of Gator Aid Removed and a few shots of Absolut added works real well.

I ( I mean a friend of mine) had a whole conversation with a Marine Patrol with one in my (his) hand.

No problems :drink:   :D

Yes I'm talkin about your drives...Never hit the bottom of the boat.If you guys would look sometime when you go in there you will see the trenches other dig. It's all soft but there are spots right in the channel that are very shallow.I really don;t like to run my drive over halfway up for any extended period. You have about 200 yards of idle in this shallow.Hence my tendency to touch the prop down.

On the Booze thingy...Act like an ass and they will notice you.Drunk and falling down is a good way to get arrested out there...as is holding any type of beer can/bottle or such.If you leave a Beer can etc. in plain site on your boat they can board and look around....I've know many that got in trouble but it was for the above mentioned reasons. It is almost a $500 fine for possesion out there so be smart.I carry plenty of Liquor in my cabin but it stays INSIDE!...We use little sports bottles with flip lids and such.

Marion and Lake are the two counties that split the Glen almost in the middle. There is a sign that shows the respective sides of jurisdiction.I can't remember which county but one is far more picky than the other. We usally tie-up in the middle away from either shore and make a sortof lagoon behind the boats.Makes for a cozy nighttime party spot.

The boys also leave somewhere in between 9-10 pm.Alot changes after that. :evilb:

Volusia actually has jurisdiciton as well since it is "part of" Lake George. In Marion, we only will go there at the request of another agency. DEP or Game & Fish could also show as well. The two bodies of water that Marion County is concerned with are Lake Weir and the Rainbow River near Dunnellon. Marion also only has 2, two Marine officers and they exclusively patrol the two above mentioned areas.

I can't speak for the policies of the Lake & Volusia, but as with anything in law enforcement, the attitude of the "citizen" goes a long way to how they are dealt with. On a major holiday, there should be plenty of scumbags to attract the LEO's attention. Don't be blatant about it & don't act like a complete ass, and you will be fine.

Re: Memorial Day 2005 on the St. Johns River, Fl.

I could be wrong but I have never seen VSO or the DEP inside the Glen...however FFWC is common.Marine patrol is another oddity to see there. It's the same guys year after year for the most part. They do watch from the wooded area of the park so that could be there grounds.

Anyways, Almost every single boat out there has alcohol of some sort on board...very few get in trouble.

We'll be looking for you. I'm not sure what day or days we will be there. Most likely in the Minx, but maybe one day in the Formula. If you see us, just holler "Cuda". There are a lot more Joe's on the water than Cudas. :p
