Bravo One oil leak- Help!
 

Second time boating this year, started up boat and heard the alarm. Shut down immediately and pulled it out of the water. Bravo One was out of lube. Noticed a puddle on the ground where trailer was parked. Appears to have leaked out around the prop/ drain plug area.

I'm hoping a new drain plug gasket will fix- otherwise I'm thinking prop shaft seal?

Thoughts, suggestions? Boat only has 90 hours on it.

There is a very small gasket that goes on the drain plug. $.99 item.

Did you change the gear oil this year and loose the gasket? If not it's probably a good idea to change the oil now. Because it's going to be hard to put in a gasket without loosing a good amount of your drive oil while in the process.

I changed the drive oil at the end of last season. Did it the right way, pumping up from the bottom plug.

What concerns me is that it sat for 6 months and didn't leak a drip, then I took it out and ran it around the lake for about 3 hours two weeks ago then parked it. When I came back 2 week later reservoir was empty. Strange...

Probabaly a prop shaft seal went bad.

never saw a prop shaft seal go bad in 90 hours......but anything is possible. I would try changing the oil again and making sure you have the gasket in place and see what happens from there. If still leaks then Griff could be right.

Did you get the prop off, I have seen fishing line take out the shaft seal. Also don't rule out the top plug. If you have had the drive off the 'o' ring around the lube connection might be damaged or missing.

You could pressure test it.. I do it all the time. 10psi holds for 24 hours, I know it is sealed up. I made a fitting that has a schrader valve and a hose to an old fuel psi gauge. Works great. You could apply a small amount of psi and see where the leak is coming from.. But dont over do it..

you can also clip the end of an automotive cooling system spressure tester and put an adapter on to screw into the drive and it works great for pressure testing. I've had to put a few out in sun under pressure to find small leaks sometimes.

Thanks for all the help! I pulled the prop and didn't see any fishing line, etc. I'm hoping that it just leaked out around the drain plug. Where do I get an adapter to pressurize the system? What thread is that drain screw?

Hey Rat pull your drain plug and make sure the O ring is on it the same thing happened to me and I must have lost the damn thing when I was putting the drain plug back in,it took a couple days for it to start leaking.
