They tighten up fine this time to the same #of turns as previous when installed dry. I think by the previous tightening to the needed position, that lossened the fit up a bit. Then the teflon from the tape made for a smooth turning pressure. Everything appeared fine, but won't know for awhile. His boat is left in the water, so will watch for oil slicks. ;)

Falcon,
When the fittings are not tight when in the prefered position, will 545 still seal? I'm thinking the fittings still have to be tight in order to keep them from breaking the seal if moved even when using a sealer of whatever type.

My boat has them all lined up perfectly, tight and don't leak. How are all 3 conditions met?

If cleaned properly and aren't "sloppy" loose, it should work. Both loctites are also thread locking so if allowed to set up properliy, they should hold position. If you look on loctite's web site, they have data sheets explaining procedures and how well they should lock. If the parts are not readily "active" (stainless or brass) you should use a primer product they sell (primer t or n) to properly prepare the surface. The hardest part is cleanliness during assembly. I would also let them set for at least 30 minutes before putting any oil through them.

Use grease on your tap and it should trap most of the shavings. The biggiest problem I had was the teflon tape would be wiped off by the convex shape of the cyl.. The problem I had with the sealers was blowout becauese I didn't have enough thread engagement. Thats why iI tapped it deeper using the cut off tap. Problem solved!
