there is a thread almost every week on types of oil used, Mobil 1 V-Twin is what I use and it's the undisputed champ of oils as far as the specs go. If you are going to spend the money on the oil buy the M-1 filter to go with is as well.

Mobil-1 V-Twin can handle more heat... up to 518*F than any oil on the planet. Many conventionals turn to sludge at 250*F..... Redline 20W-50 is a close second. Then Amsoil 20W-50 Severe Service Racing oil. All $9.00/qt oils. All gorillas.

You learned well! :D

It may be the A/C 454

Check to be sure though or maybe one of the gang can help you out on "short filter cross references".

GTX is a good choice in conventionals. I have experience using it and like it.

A/C filters are made by or outsourced by GM. Most Merc engines take the same thread size but either a short or long version of it.

A/C is the best $4-5 filter around. I used them for a while and liked them until I moved up to Mobil-1 filters.

I am sure somebody will respond with a list of short filter cross references.. :D

I think the Mobil-1 M-111 is the short and the M-1 302 the tall...or vice versa..just pick the shorter filter. If you don't want a M-1 cross reference the short M-1 filter when you are at the store with a comparable filter and you should be good to go.

Hey Badkachina...the V-Twin is a thicker 20W-50 almost a 20W-60 they say as it was a tough choice to label this unique product. From what I understand it is a straight weight 50ish super synthetic oil that behaves like a 20W-50. This stuff does not have viscosity enhancers that mushroom open at higher temps it is tough from the word GO....sounds like you would not switch. It's the baddest boy on the block..make no mistake of that. :D

Thanks for the info. I found a K&N filter that is shorter that should work.
Thanks Again

As long as I can find it I'll use it. I noticed Autozone and Checker aren't carrying it in my area anymore. I saw in thread that Walmart may carry it, anybody have any ideas?

This tech obviously isn't a petroleum engineer. You can't just blend two straight weight oils, and come up with a multi-viscosity oil.
