Question Removing risers

I have the studs with nuts on my risers, as opposed to bolts - I am trying to get off to inspect risers and replace gaskets. I tried double nutting to get the stud out but just strips the stud so just got back from HD and got bottle of mapp gas to heat up the riser to get studs out with vise grips. Is there an easier way?????
believe me - I would love to just leave studs in place and slide the risers off but the rubber exhaust tubes aren't exactly ply-able.

Thanks

snap-on and K D tools both make sockets desgined to remove studs, not the stupid ecentric knurled thin you buy at sears, they don't work ot well and they gouge the ehll out of the stud. The nice ones are fitted to each stud size and I think the K D ones were like 100 bucks for the set, well worth the money. Use a little heat and the good stud remover and they will come right out. Remember to use the heat BEFORE you break the stud though, it's alot more work afterwords.

Thanks but the studs are dead to me any ways, I am going with bolts when re-installing so ruining not a problem. I need to get this done tomorrow so rather not go searching for tools.

So much for the fast and easy.

HillBilly, is this the set you recommned??

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog

and I can see why this would be a mistake;
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00904458000

I Got the 2 taller ones closer to bow but the rear are short and vice grip out of question, can't grab on.

I need to stop 2nd guessing mechanics

Thanks in advance

yep the snap-on ones you have there are the right ones. And yeah that crafstman thing is a piece of junk. How short are they, if they are less tehna bout half an inch or so you may not be able to get on am with much of anything. If this is the case you will have to grind em smooth, being carefull not to damage the gasket surface, thed drill and tap, I don't even bother with an extactor cuase if you break it your done.
