Drive Fluid in Bilge

I topped off both reservoirs and went out for the day. One side leaked fluid into the bilge. Pure fluid, no milkshake. The drives were in an up position as I had also changed the props on the lift and hate the idea of diving for the one I drop.
Why would this overflow?

when I had this trouble I learned it was too much heat in the drive caused by a bearing going bad. the drive crashed. we found slight corrosion on a bearing surface on a lower shaft. the corroosion may have been from water sitting in the drive or electrolysis. once repaired all was fine.

Agreed..... Sort of like antifreeze in a car, when it heats up, it needs somewhere to push it due to the expansion, thus the overflow tank in a car. I'd have outdrive checked out for specific cause...

Both of my drives were gone through over the winter by Colobello in Florida. He replaced seals etc. They have only been run about 3 hours since rebuild.

check the little rubber seal that fits in the cap and make sure its still there and you might not think in can happen but check the corners of the bottle for a pinhole. i hunted a problem in mine for a cpl of weeks begore i noticed the bottle had a little hole in the upper corner that was probably weak from production but it took 2 years to break through!

The fitting comes out of the bottom and there is a nut INSIDE of the reservoir to tighten it. Check that nut and make sure it's good and tight. The next thing to check is the routing of the hose. The hose can be mis routed so it rubs on the drive shaft.
