sweeeeeettttt!!!!!! :D :drink:
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
should be hangin from the end of a chain this week! :evilb:
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Good luck
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Sweet!! Is that Chevy Orange?
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
No, thats Wesco Red!
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Looks like IH Red to me. :D But that's a good thing!!
They look good Don. |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Lookin' good Dyno/Don! I've got "Screamin' Banana Yellow Yella", and you've got "Whoppin' Wild Wesco Red". ;) Anyway, I think you're well on your way to having a nice summer with your boat! Have Fun!!! :)
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Don't leave us hang when you get your dyno numbers!!!! :D
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
some time this week I should have some #'s off the dyno.
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Give us some specs and let us guess what they will make. I hear Wesco's dyno gives "real" numbers so it will be fun to see OSO members estimates compared to actual. :D
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
454's +.040,9.6/1 compression,Merlin heads ,hyd roller cams, roller rockers,Edelbrock rpm intakes, 800 holley carbs, MSD ignition....blah ,blah,blah...should make gobs of torque.
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
My guess 535 HP @ 5400 RPM.
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Did you option for the oil leak to not be installed? :D
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Cord....people in glass houses should not throw stones! I can break out the sinking Cord pics again!!! :evilb:
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
pulled the first today a little disappointing.....but stump pullers. I was wrong with the compression it ended up at less than 9/1 I'll try to post the sheet but its scanned so it may be too large a file it made 447 hp at 5200 and 500 fp of tq at 3400.
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
I was lookin for 500ish......oh well, the 850 would have drowned it we jetted it all the way back to stock out of the box jetting on the 800's and it was perfect. They burn 20 gph at 3400 rpm. i think the compression drop hurt and we could have went larger with the cam but it idles at 500rpm almost like a Searay! Its ready for a couple small blowers if I find a deal on some B&M 250's or talk Crazyhorse into some 420's for his mills that will get me close to 575......
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Dyno/Don, I wouldn't be all too disappointed. They will be nice reliable engines, and while HP is certainly nice----just remember that TORQUE is your friend!!! Now get them in the boat and let'r buck!!! :D
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Dyno,
In all honesty those are just good legit numbers. HP is calculation that needs rpm to make big numbers. I feel you will have a nice running boat once those mills are dropped in. Chris |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Sut I can email the sheet to you to look at if you like.
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
I have heard Wesco dyno's marine engines with marine exhaust and accessories functioning. Put a set of car headers and remove the accessories like most people do and there's 500. Those will be some nice running motors!
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
yep it had the seawater pump ,alternator, and Marine headers on the engine, real world #'s just like they are in the boat. He told me that his dyno makes very few friends and makes a liar out of alot of them..... :p
|
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Hey Dyno,
Good to hear your engines are running great. What did you decide to do with the exhaust? Can not wait to hear the sonic run again..Dwight |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Dyno/Don, just like you said; Dave's dyno will hurt your feelings-----and I think I may have told you this before, but remember there is a guy we both know that dyno'd one of his 540cid, his fully ported Dart Pro-1 aluminum heads, Crane 741 hyd roller cam on WESCO's dyno about 2 months ago. It came up to about 650hp at about 5800rpm when he was expecting something more like 700hp. After the dyno the engine was installed in the boat and it did about 1-2mph faster on the GPS. Apparently, there is about a 35-45hp different between WESCO's dyno, and Tom Earhart's dyno with WESCO's dyno showing more conservative numbers.
Also, Wette Vette is right. From what I was told, that when using a dry car style header on a dyno they create a lot more heat, and thus will make more HP vs. a dry jacketed marine style header that runs cooler temps---besides running a raw water sea pump/impeller, and alternator. So, don't let that dyno mess with your head too much----just put those bullets in your boat and it will be a "runner" more than what you think! :D Now then, let's see who can be the first one to the launch ramp like you were talkin' earlier about in another thread??? ;) :D :D |

Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Dyno,
I may have missed this in earlier posts, but do you have a 31 or 35 Sonic? And are these the original 330's on roids upgraded? and what mph #'s were you seeing before? Just curious. Jason |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
The boats a 31 the motors were done a few years ago by myself and Crazyhorse. This time around I went with a forged parts last time I had Hyperutectic pistons and cast rotating assemblies. I dropped the compression a bit from 9.5/1 to 8.8/1 went with a Hyd. roller cam and dry stacks I dont have the cam card I'll get it today when I go there. The boat runs about 70-72 on GPS with 1-3' water to loosen it up. The goal here is one thing turn key reliabilty power is only a passing thought....The torque is all in early but it doesn't drop off at all flat all the way to 5200.

Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
I couldn't agree more with you about the turn key aspect. After breaking 5 different rocker studs last season (each time in between Muskegon and Grand Haven), replacing seapumps, electric fuel pumps, and blowing up a drive at Croton Hardy my dreams of more power have slipped aside to reliability.
I have been out every weekend this summer and all I have had to do each time out is wash the boat, put props on, put in gas, put in drain plug, launch and repeat. This season I am concentrating on interior and stereo! Hope to see you and Mark out this season. Jason |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
Don't worry about those dyno #'s., as a very wise old gearhead friend asks me all the time.... "did you ever see anyone race a dyno?" :D

Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
There are many ways to Dyno, accelerate thru the curve from the bottom to the top, pull down from the top to the bottom, and static pull each RPM. I perfer static pulling because you are not dealing with the variable of accelerating or decelerating the mass of the rotating parts in the engine. Dyno work is usually done to check the controlling systems, fuel, ignition, and to establish a power curve so you know at what RPM to run the engine. Bragging rights are usually settled on the water.

Good Point Tom!!

Tom with my #'s I'm not bragging believe me......just stating the facts.

Tom, glad you posted. Dyno/Don, now let's get our boats in the water son!!! :D |

Kaama,i'm at a snails pace on finishing my boat too, still waiting on tailpipes, manifolds showed up damaged too!Didn't plan on new motor having reversion with a cam 3 degrees bigger than old one but i gues its all part of the game.
Dyno, you'll be out boating before any of us! |
Re: First Look at Dyno's 330's on roids!
running the numbers through desktop dyno gave me about the same numbers as were developed during the dyno runs. i had to make some cam timing assumptions as i haven't asked dyno for the cam card info but i think the engines perform pretty much as they were expected to. sorry about not using caps but i'm doing this with one hand.
