Electronic Ignition Upgrade
I'm looking into buying one of these electronic ignition conversion kits from pertronix http://www.pertronix.com/ignition_pr.../ignitor_2.htm
to replace the old dual point distributors I have in my boat. Has anyone had any experience with them? if so what do you think?

Re: Electronic Ignition Upgrade
I have converted approx 100 old points distributors to petronix systems. They work good but always carry a spare unit because they will sometimes fail out of the blue. I have even had two NG right out of the box. You will need to feed them straight 12 volts for power instead of the resisted ( lowered ) voltage your points dist is probably using. I would suggest new 12volt coils as well to simplify things.

Re: Electronic Ignition Upgrade
Thanks airpacker, I've actually been researching them quite a bit and I've never read anything really bad about them plus they have to work better than the points. I have the new coils sitting on my cupboard now the only thing I'm not sure about is: where is the best place to tie into the harness to get the full 12v to the coil? Currently there is only about 4.8v at the coil which probably explains why it is hard to start sometimes.

I agree with the reliability of the pertronix. Used them before, but just had a friend order the Crane version. It also has a built in rev limiter for the same price. 15 minute installation.
