my buddy has a 1987 25 checkmate w/ a 454 the alternator
belt keeps breaking but the alternator and circulator water pump seem free. the belt he is using is a 15 series belt all pulleys seem lined up.

If they are V-belts, I had the same problem. My pulleys were pitted from rust. I cleaned them up,that helped,but I replaced them.
