Default How to wire kill switch?

Finished uprading my twin Daytona. Believe it or not did not come with a kill switch. I bought one from Fred, but I'm wondering if it is the right one? Are there kill switched for twins or can I wire both through a standard kill switch? Do I wire it through the power switch on the key?

There are kill switches for twins that use a diode. Other wise you need 2 single switches.

Wire it through the hot wire off the ingnition switch to the engine, therefore causing the switch when turned off cutting power to the motors, hope this helps.

Depends: do you have stock ignition or MSD?

I believe for MSD use the white wire out of the ignition box, run it thru a kill switch (that closes the circuit when the cap is pulled), and then to a ground. Also with MSD I think that you can run both engines to one switch, since you're grounding the circuit(s).
There's info on MSD's web site for "theft prevention wiring" to verify.

I use a switch from Saf-T-Stop. They have a single throw, dual pole switch specifically designed for twin applications, and comes with lanyards. I've not had any issues passing tech inspection at race sites, so they are race-worthy.

I have three of these across my dash for each crew position. I tapped into my red ignition wire and made a "series loop" thru one side of each switch, and back to the red ignition wire. Repeated again for other motor, other side of each switch.

I like removing ignition power to the motor at the key switch, especially if you have an electric fuel system. Cut the power to the ignition and everything shuts down, not just your MSD box. Fuel system shut-off is a tech requirement for the sanctioning bodies.

Search your favorite search engine for "Saf-T-Stop Switch KS-22" by T&H Marine. Make sure it's the dual i/o model.
CP Performance carries them, too.

Good luck,
Brian

Thanks for the replies. I have MSD ignition, electric fuel pumps that are wired to shut off with no oil pressure. If I could wire it at the switch it would be much easier. Would it still work running the kill switches through the hot wire on the ignition switch?

Yes, this is the same setup I'm running: MSD, elect fuel, oil pressure switch to remove fuel system power via a relay when oil pressure goes away.

"Killing" power to the ignition at the red ignition lead on the key switch will shut down the MSD box, as well as the fuel system.

Ahh, didn't think of that! I can wire that up. I'll use the normally open contacts. Thanks!
