I am refering to this one

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-40
Fully synthetic Mobil 1® Truck & SUV Formula is engineered for hard-working gasoline and diesel engines. It offers outstanding wear protection, oil consumption control and performance reserve. Whether hauling or towing heavy loads, driving off-road or just dealing with stop-and-go driving, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV provides outstanding protection for gasoline and diesel engines.

Are you saying that it's actually 5-30 Delvac?

It's been discontinued due to a lawsuit. It is Delvac 1 in a Mobil 1 bottle. That was part of the lawsuit, for missrepresentation or something?!?

Anyway, they are coming out with a 5w30 Truck and SUV and a Turbo Diesel 5w40 that should be on the shelves by now. They were released Feb 15th, 2006. If you want I can get you int ouch with a Mobil distributor in your area. They may have it before Walmart. ExxonMobil is doing a great job at confusing us all!!!! Tust me, we are opening and canceling products everyday. It's hard these days to be a distributor for them, but they are the best around..

What ever they call it Mobil 5W-40 is great for towing vehicles to a ZO-6...absolutely great stuff. Period.

But no...not for offshores...you know what goes under the cap in those birds.

How much ZDDP do I need?

Most all oils have about 1%.

1300 ppm is not equating to 1% ZDDP.

Most GOOD oils, the ones that are loaded, like racing oils, Mobil 1's, etc, say 1-4.9%, BY WEIGHT.

Remember ZDDP, has two alkyl branches, and phoporous, besides zinc.

I'm past that, and need a missing factor to do the math, to make this make sense.

So I was asked for my personal choices of lube/filtration products for 2006's season...

My reply:

Gearlube:
#1 Amsoil Marine
#2 Mobil-1 75W-90
#3 Mercury HP

Oil Filters:
#1 Wix Racing
(Fram racing for racing engines that need more flow)
#2 K&N
#3 Mobil-1 or Amsoil SD

Synthetic Oil
#1 Mobil-1 V-Twin
#2 Mobil-1 15W-50
#3 Amsoil Marine 15W-40

Conventional Oil:
#1 Kendall or Castrol GT 20W-50
#2 A 15W-40 Diesel such as Delvac or Rotella
#3 Straight weight 40 Kendall or Mercury 20W-40

Just my favorites....everybody has their own I am sure.

Got a good question..

Does the Mobil 1 Extended Performance meet GF-4 specifications? How did the new specification impact the development of the high-endurance product line?

"Mobil 1 Extended Performance contains an extra performance additive to help deliver exceptional performance and protection. This fully synthetic technology is designed specifically for longer service intervals. Appropriate viscosities of Mobil 1 Extended Performance also meet all the requirements for GF-4. Additionally, they exceed the requirements of API SL/CF and various ACEA (European) specifications".

Mobil got it right now!

I saw on page 3 or 4 someone didn't know why auto racers used such heavy weight oils. The reason they use heavy weight oils is to reduce windage. A 10W-30 oil that is lighter gets sucked up towards the crank at high RPMs and slows down the rpm. I believe Car Craft or some other hot rod magazine did dyno test back in 92-94 issue.

Good thread here!

I would of thought that is why they use windage trays. A heavier viscosity oil will also offer more film strength which in turn produces less engine wear. On the negitive side a heavier oil will produce more drag hence less horsepower. Is the horsepower loss measurable, probally. Would you notice the loss driving your boat, I doubt it. Ken
