Default Need help picking a cam!

Hey guys..I am interested in reaching around 600 hp.I am having a hard time picking a cam.
I have a gen VI short block.compression should be 8:75.There is almost no time on the motor maybe twenty hours tops.I have a set of aluminum edelbrock performer rpm heads 219 int/1.88 ex.I have had the polished and ported.I am running a edelbrock TM2-0 BBC Oval Port Intake Manifold. And an 850 marine mighty marine demon carb.Aluminum Indmar center riser manifolds with 4" tips no muffler for know.Maybe adding a captians call later.Blue printed high volume oil pump , Dually 10 qrt. with windage tray and scrapper. An MSD complete marine ignition system.

The boat is a 2002 225BR with a volvo duo prop.I would like to be able to see 70 MPH.
Depending on what RPM/Power I end up with will decide wich prop set up I need.It will be between F7s/F8s.The F7s will get me 5300-5500 RPM.F8s around 5100-5300
550HP will get me to 70 in this boat
Boat Specifications
11 Person Capacity 1583 Lbs 718 Kg
Fuel Capacity 58 Gal 220 L
Dry Weight 3800-4000 Lbs 1724-1814 Kg
Draft 18" / 32" 46 Cm / 81 Cm
Deadrise 18°
And yes I know i should buy a different boat. But the wife likes this one.Tons of room and she feels safe in itwith our son.The boat does come with a 425HP BBC if you order it.I am currently running a 330HP SBC and seeing 55MPH 5000-5100 RPM
The noise and the speed is just to help me deal with this boat.....lol
I see people saying to use a crane 731 or 741 but I cant find any specs.ANy help would be great!
Thanks

Cool Re: Need help picking a cam!

Going to be difficult getting to 600HP with this combo. First, since your going to run aluminum heads, shave the head or use a thin head gasket and get your compression ratio somewhere around 9.75 or 10.0 to 1. Make sure you have the heads flowed and get the intake around 360 cfm at .600 lift and the exhaust at 260 or so cfm at 600 lift. Lets everybody get off using these two Crane cam numbers, there not the only grinds out there! Use a cam with about 246 to 252 intake duration and 248 to 256 exhaust duration with lifts in the .610 range and a 110-112 LSA. Check the intake valve to piston clearances carefully and cut the valve relief slightly if needed. Install the cam somewhere between straight up and 2 degrees advanced. You will need a better set of exhaust headers and a Victor type intake manifold with the tallest ports available. This kind of a combo should get you somewhere between 550 to 600HP at about 5600 rpms. Make sure the valve train is kept stable witht the right springs and retainers. This type of motor should be carefully machined, balanced and assembled with proper clearances to reach this level of performance. If you are not used to this exacting type of buildup, use a professional in your area and do it right the first time. Good Luck,

Default Re: Need help picking a cam!

Thanks for the reply raylar...I was told not to run a duration over 232 due to reversion problems.
