V6 Ignition on a V8 Blower motor? Why??
Why do some V8 blower motors use V6 Ignition moduals? I checked my engines and noticed that I have thunderbolt V8 moduals on my KE800s. My engines run fine...what would change if I changed to V6 moduals.

The V-6 modules only have 14* of advance.
It allows you to give it more initial advance.
It's generally done to help out idle quality.

Timing would have to be reset.
If you need, say for instance, 30* total,
you would set initial at 16.
It's always best to re-check it at over 3000 rpm
to see if the total is where you want it.
Idle speed will generally pick up, you
have to adjust the idle speed screws( throttle) back down
to a decent idle speed.
Idle mixture....everythings different,
I can't say yes or no.
The only drawbacks I could say, would be the
cost of the modules.
If you're not stalling when shifting into gear,
or dying at idle, I wouldn't change it.

I ran the v-6 module on a pair of 454 blower motors with 174 b&m blowers , the motors run great . dyno at 536 HP at 5300.

Regarding timing...couldn't I just set total advance @ 3000 and not worry about inital timing???
I really appriciate the replys...this is helpful. Another question...why would anyone build a blower motor with V8 moduals if the V6 work so much better?

If your current engines idle fine, there is no reason to change them. The only reason to use the V6 module is so you can increase initial/base timing to improve idle quality.
A V6 module give 14* advance on a V6 engine. It only gives about 10* advance on a V8 engine.

So what's the initial timing diff. between the V6 vs V8 modual on my 540c KE800SC motors???
I'm still not sure if I should make the move..but I like any improvement...is'nt there always a give & take to a good "mod"???
AND... why did KE build my engines with the V8s moduals in the first place if V6 moduals are the way to go.

Generally blower motors run less total advance than NA motors. So if your running 30 total with a 24 degree module, you've only got 6 degrees initial advance. That COULD cause idle problems, ie loading up, stalling out, etc. So with a V6 14 degree module, you set for 20 initial, 30 total. It gives you a much nicer idle.
If your idle is OK now, dont bother to change it.

Do you know which V8 modules you have. There about 6 different ones. They all have different timing advance curves. They all give 20-24* advance, but it depending on which module you have, the full amount of advance may come in anywhere between 3000 and 5000rpms. I'm sure KE used that specific module for a reason and did some testing with others.
As long as the engine idles fine and doesn't stall when put into gear, I would leave it alone.
I'm guessing that you probably have a V8-HP module. This module gives 20* advance and timing is all in by 3000rpms. Thats just a guess though. Its about as close to V6 module as it gets.
