What was the reason for these crossing intakes? How old is this stuff?

looks almost like a twin turbo set-ip with those 2-2 1/2" tubes going towards the middle,Smitty

I used to have a turbo setup, so I thought of that. but there is no turbo mounting point on those exhaust logs. Maybe an old cross ram setup?

thats most likely a cross ram set up from years back like the chryslers used to use I've built some small blocks in the past with them very rare and hard to find they make bunches of torque I had never seen one for a big block I assume it's a big block with the valve covers

Yea, it looks like an old cross ram system. That would be a pretty rare system. These systems were nortorious for having fuel distribution and settling problems. If you could convert them to fuel injection though, they would be a pretty neat system.

I wonder what the single round tubes were for going towards middle, theres where my guess for turbo setup came, maybe they connect and its a balance tube,Smitty

Payton,
It’s possible these are not BBC manifolds. I have worked on some of the original factory cross ram intakes and these are virtually identical to the Chrysler Cross Ram setups (right down to the equalizer tubes) from the late 50’s and early 60’s. They were originally developed for the Speedways (300 series) and eventually made there way into drag racing. The Ramchargers ran them on their 413 wedge motors. In the 60’s some companies were running Mopar engines in marine applications. In those days Edelbrock would manufacture intake manifolds very similar in design to the factory pieces (Smokey Ram, BBC Mystery Motor ram intake). Some interesting history in these pieces.

Here is the only BBC cross ram manifold I have seen from Edelbrock

How would you seal the valley and support the dist. with this set-up on a BBC? ;)

The valve covers and spacers are for a big block Chevy
The intake manifold if for a big block Mopar
The exhaust manifolds are for a small block Chevy
